2021 Principal's Year 4 World Geography Challenge

2021 Principal's Year 4 World Geography Challenge

Over the past month, our Year 4 students have been learning about continents, countries, capital cities, oceans, natural features and flags in weekly lessons with Mr Walker.

All students took part in an online quiz last week, testing their knowledge from the unit, to earn points for their House.

The Grand Finale took place today, involving participants from each House in three rounds: Spelling, Capital Cities and Flags.

There was a great buzz in the room and a very close contest between the Houses ensued.

Cranmer House triumphed in the end, earning 5 points towards the Canterbury Cup interhouse trophy for 2021.

The Canterbury Dark Side Astronomy Club RETURNS Next Year!

At Canterbury's Dark Side Astronomy Club, we have plenty of fun while learning a bit about the universe along the way.

The club will be open to ALL students from Year 5 to Year 12.

We will be meeting every Monday after school in the Secondary Library.

These meetings will involve entertaining videos, news and astronomy topics like: supernovas, black holes, relativity, Schrodinger's Cat, asteroid impacts and more.

Then a follow-up activity which could be Internet research, model-making, quiz games with chocolate prizes, Jedi Knight training or light sabre battles!

Each year there will also be star gazing evenings with telescopes on the Oval, a Star Wars movie marathon, a visit to the Brisbane Planetarium as well as family nights.

2021 City Of Logan Sports Awards: Results

2021 City Of Logan Sports Awards: Results

Congratulations to all the very worthy winners at Saturday night's City Of Logan Sports Awards.

Unfortunately we didn't take out our two categories, but looking forward to a bigger and better 2022!

📷: Our Aquatic & Tennis Centre Manager Mr James Rapkins and Tennis Coach Drew Parker with their nomination certificate.

Our two nominations were for:

YOUNG ATHLETE WITH A DISABILITY - Rhylee Jackson (Year 9).

Rhylee Jackson is an excellent tennis player who has been profoundly deaf his whole life.

While competing very well in mainstream competition, Rhylee has excelled in the past 12 months at a National level in the Deaf & Hard Of Hearing (DHOH) competitions.

Thanks to Matt Bourne and Drew Parker for doing such a great job with squads and individual lessons, and we look forward to supporting Rhylee into the future.

SPORTS EVENT OF THE YEAR - Canterbury Taipans Inaugural Junior Girls Tennis Championships 2021.

In July 2021, the Canterbury Taipans hosted the first ever ‘ALL GIRL’ National Point Junior Event.

It was ground-breaking, inspiring and brilliantly delivered thanks to the teams in marketing, facilities and tennis.

The event drew some amazing feedback and has sparked the plans for a ‘Girls Only’ circuit adopted by Tennis Queensland, to increase the participation of women in sport and particularly, to rescue the dropout rate in female teenage tennis players.

Dear All,

We would like to advise that roadworks in the northbound lane of Bow Street start Monday 22 November and are scheduled to finish by Friday 3 December 2021 inclusive.

All works will be carried out between regular working hours.

Please refer to the attached plans showing areas of lane closure and the detour route which will be in place.

Please allow extra time for potential traffic delays during your morning drop-offs or arrivals and afternoon pick-ups or departures.

Or simply avoid this turn-off altogether and use Easterly Street across this roadworks fortnight.

Thank you!

2021 Junior School Remembrance Day Service

2021 Junior School Remembrance Day Service

Our Canterbury Junior School commemorated Remembrance Day 2021 with a special service this morning.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in the year 1918, World War One officially ended.

Remembrance Day is a time to remember the honour and courage of those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts.

Today we invited special guest Warrant Officer Matthew Vernon to be a part of our ceremony.

Warrant Officer Vernon is a Force Element Group Training Coordinator for Combat Support Group, at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base over at Amberley.

Each Junior School class also made wreaths that were decorated with poppies.

The poppy has a special significance as they were the first flowers to bloom after the devastating human losses on the European battlefields during the First World War.

Poppies are worn on Remembrance Day and are also used along with other flowers to make commemorative wreaths.

Our Junior School Class Captains laid the wreaths beneath the Australian Flag during the reading of In Flanders Fields - a famous wartime poem, to pay respect and offer tribute to those who lost their lives in 'The Great War'.

Our students then recited The Ode and Mr Temple played The Last Post, which was followed by a minute of silence and the playing of The Rouse.
