Dance

The Canterbury Co-curricular Dance program enables students to participate in a range of Dance ensembles.

The program caters for students from Kindy to Year 12, inspiring dancers of all ability levels to strive for their full potential. Students are provided with technical training by qualified dance teachers in jazz, contemporary, lyrical, musical theatre and hip hop dance styles.

Canterbury offers private and small group dance tuition through the Arts Academy studio tuition program. Students who engage with the Dance program at Canterbury are provided with opportunities to participate in workshops with guest artists, challenging physical boundaries and performing professionally choreographed works.

Canterbury Dance teams have gained respect and recognition in the wider community with invitations to perform at the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge Gala Concert and the Beenleigh Quota Eisteddfod Society 30th Anniversary Concert.

Canterbury Training teams and Junior Dance Classes are open to students of any ability who have a passion for Dance and would like to learn and train in dance with a competition element.

The Performance Dance program encourages students to participate in a range of styles, engendering a love of dance, group interaction and participation. The Program caters to students of all abilities and builds an appreciation of a diverse range of dance genres. Positions in Dance Performance Teams are awarded by audition. Auditions are held at the end of Term 4 for existing Canterbury students and in Term 1 for students new to the College.

The Canterbury Dance Artists program is the elite dance performance team. Positions are awarded by invitation to students identified as Gifted and Talented in Dance.

Radiance Dance Company are the College’s premier representative Dance performance team. Radiance has a focus on the students’ technical dance ability in Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical and Musical Theatre dance styles.  Positions are open to Year 9 – 12 students via audition.

The Hip Hop Crew caters for students with a specific interest in the Hip Hop genre of dance. Hip Hop Crew compete at eisteddfods and perform at community and school based events.

Illumination Dance Ensemble is a development team that prepares students for entry into Radiance Dance. This group works to develop technical and performance skill in the Jazz and Contemporary dance genres. Positions are open to all interested students of any ability level in Years 7 – 12. No audition is required.

Ignite Dance Company is a dance team providing an opportunity for students in Years 4-6 to participate in competitive dancing via an audition.

Shine Dance Company is a dance team providing an opportunity for students in Years 2-3 to participate in competitive dancing via an audition.

Flame Dance Class is a dance class providing an opportunity for students in Years 3-6 to participate in dancing for enjoyment.

Rise Dance Class is a dance team providing an opportunity for students in Years 1-2 to participate in dancing for enjoyment.

Little Groovers Dance Class is a dance group providing an opportunity for students in Kindy and Prep to participate in dancing for enjoyment.  This class runs for a term in duration however if places are available, students may enrol for more than one term.
