Scholarships

Canterbury recognises talent, rewards achievement and celebrates success.

So every year we accept scholarship applications from exceptional students.

Scholarships are available for students entering Years 5–10 in 2024 and 2025.

Applications are strongly encouraged for students excelling at:

  • Academics – STEM: Science Technology Engineering Mathematics.
  • Music – Voice, Clarinet, Cello, Double Bass, Drum Kit, Lower Brass: Trombone & Trumpet.
  • Sport – Swimming, Tennis, Athletics, Cross-Country, Cricket, Football (Soccer) and Rugby.

Academic & Mathematics Scholarships

Canterbury holds TWO Academic & Mathematics Scholarship Exams each year.

2023 Second Round Academic & Mathematics Scholarship Applications NOW CLOSED.

2024 First Round Academic & Mathematics Scholarship Exam Applications OPEN JULY.
– For students entering Years 5–10 in 2024.
– Exams are set for each year level and students may apply for either Academic, Mathematics or Academic AND Mathematics.
Please Note: All students sit the same exam and the Mathematics exam is a component of the overall exam.

Music Scholarships

Canterbury College Music Programs

Bands: Beginner, Year 6, Symphonic, Big Band, Percussion Company.

Chamber Music: ARTISTrio, Trio Bellissimo, String Quartets.

Choral: Junior Singers, Junior Choir, Bella Voce – Girls Choir, Taipan Tenors – Boys Vocal Group, Cantabile, Concert Choir.

Rock School: Rock Bands, Guitar Ensemble, Acoustic Girls Band, Guitar Trio, Brekkie Buskers, Junior Guitar Ensemble.

Strings: Year 3, Ritornello, Sinfonia, Bravura Strings, Allegro Strings, All Star Strings.

Canterbury holds various Music Scholarship Auditions each year.

Younger students are invited to apply for Instrumental Music Scholarships if they have successfully attained an AMEB Level 4.

Sport Scholarships

Canterbury students have the opportunity to compete locally in The Associated Schools (TAS) sporting competition, as well as representative district, regional, state and national championships.

Canterbury College Sports

Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Cross-Country, e-Sports, Football (Soccer), Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Rugby 7s, Swimming, Tennis, Touch Football, Volleyball.

Canterbury holds various Sport Scholarship Trials each year.

Leadership & Community Excellence Year 7 Scholarships

A limited number of these scholarships are awarded each year to new students commencing in Year 7 at Canterbury.

Our College criteria when offering these scholarships is as follows:

  1. The holding of a senior leadership position in Primary School – Junior School Captain, Vice-Captain, Sports Captain, Arts Captain, SRC President etc.
  2. An ongoing contribution to community service, volunteering or participation in public awareness campaigns.
  3. The recognition of ‘servant leadership’ qualities by teachers or school leaders as cited in letters of recommendation or similar.

The evidence required to support these scholarship applications may include: letters of appointment, certificates of achievement or recognition, and letters of recommendation by school leaders or teachers.

An application under this category does not prevent a student from also applying for other scholarship categories.
