Carpentry Apprenticeships

The apprentice will perform duties like setting out and constructing wall frames, ceiling frames, pitched roofs, eaves, external stairs and flooring systems, plus installing windows and doors.

Industry has provided advice supporting the Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30220) as the most appropriate training pathway for apprentice carpenters undertaking carpentry formwork in the commercial construction sector.

Units of competency required to achieve the Certificate III in Carpentry are suitable for delivery and assessment in an institutional environment, where it can be demonstrated there is a suitable simulated working environment.

Industry are supportive of a simulated environment assessment due to the complexities required in the high-rise construction sector and the range of technical skills and underpinning knowledge the apprentices have acquired through employment on these construction sites.

Locations: Brisbane Northside and Southside.

Sheetmetal Apprenticeships

The apprentice will generally be involved in the production, manufacture and repair of a wide range of light metal products – including ducts for air-conditioning, hospital and catering equipment, office furniture, refrigeration cabinets, tanks, vats and pipes using thin, flat sheets of metal.

The metal sheets are mainly zinc-covered steel, stainless steel, vinyl covered steel, copper and aluminium, and are usually not more than 3mm thick.

Apprenticeship Option One:

Requirements: Must be a recommencing 4th year apprentice, have a car and drivers licence.

Location: Mansfield.

Apprenticeship Option Two:

Requirements: Available to 1st or 2nd year apprentices.

Cabinet Maker Apprenticeships

Workers with this qualification have tradesperson-level skills in the manufacture and/or installation of products, including furniture and cabinetry, made from timber and other materials.

They have core skills in tool use, measuring, drawing (including computer-aided design), interpreting work documentation, preparing cutting lists, communication, teamwork, and safe and environmentally sustainable work practices.

They may have specialised skills in wood machining, cabinet and furniture making, kitchen and bathroom construction and installation, marine cabinetry, coopering or drafting.

Work is in a defined range of skilled operations – usually within a range of broader activities involving established routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures.

Individuals collaborate with others to achieve quality outcomes and take responsibility for their own work.

They may have some limited responsibility for the work of others.

Kitchen and bathroom installers must be licensed in some states, and induction training is required for those working on construction sites.

Requirements: Available for 1st to 4th year apprentices who must be Under 21.
