Dr Arjun Nagpal graduated with an MD from the University of Melbourne in 2021 and is currently a first year doctor based in Victoria.
With a strong passion for teaching, he has spent the last seven years also working in the pre-medical space.
During this time, he has tutored hundreds of students on UCAT, GAMSAT, medical portfolios and medical interviews.
Having sat and scored above the 90th percentile in UCAT and GAMSAT, he has extensive firsthand experience with both entrance tests.
Additionally, he has also previously been an official medical interviewer for the University of Melbourne and is quite familiar with the style and type of questions used.

Our Canterbury Health Holiday Program will commence on Monday 27 June 2022.
About
Canterbury Health courses are available to students in Years 10 - 12, who are interested in getting a career head-start in the Health Care sector.
Successful completion of these courses will qualify students to work as an Assistant In Nursing (AIN) and provide the foundational knowledge needed to undertake further studies in this field.
The Certificate II and Certificate III Courses are completed as a package - commencing in the June/July school holidays and finishing in the September/October school holidays.
They are conducted in partnership with Axiom College in our purpose-built Canterbury Health Mini-Hospital in P Block.
The Canterbury Health program will:
- Develop the skills needed to comply with infection prevention and Workplace Health & Safety (WHS).
- Guide students to interpret and apply medical terminology and recognise healthy body systems.
- Teach students how to transport clients and carry out nursing assistant duties in various settings.
Timetable
The program will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day during the school holidays.
The first part of the course will run from Monday 27 June to Friday 8 July 2022, and the remainder of the course will run from Monday 19 September to Friday 30 September 2022.

Cost
For eligible students, the Canterbury Health program is significantly subsidised by VETis funding from the Federal Government to the value of $2,000.
The remaining out-of-pocket cost is $800 and will be charged to parents/carers in your Term 3 SRC, with the fee including a professional grade nursing kit and scrubs.

Dear Parents and Carers,
On Wednesday 1 June 2022, our Year 3 students will be travelling to the Lone Pine Sanctuary as part of our Science Unit on living and non-living things.
This will be an exciting and informative experience for our students.
Education officers will help students discover the features of living things and assist them with the classification of animals.
The students will participate in a number of hands-on experiences with animals throughout the day.
Please note the following important information regarding this excursion:
• Students will travel by bus.
• Students will need to be at school by 8:25am, and will return to Canterbury College by 3:00pm, and will be dismissed at 3:15pm.
• Students are required to wear their full formal uniform with their hat.
• All students should apply sunscreen before arriving at school and bring their own sunscreen for reapplication during the visit.
• Students will need to bring their morning tea and lunch.
• Each child will be required to carry their Canterbury sports bag or formal school bag containing their sunscreen, food and a filled water bottle.
• Students are not permitted to purchase food, drink or souvenir items at the venue.
• The students will be divided into smaller groups during the excursion and will stay in their group for all activities.

Dear Parents and Carers,
The rain this morning could not dampen the Mother's Day festivities as our school came together for breakfast, to celebrate our mums and all the other special women in our lives.
Thank you to the families that attended, and please drop in for a Yalburru Community Cafe breakfast again sometime soon.
Our ELC and Prep mums were pampered and spoiled at the Mother's Day Mingle this afternoon while enjoying some special time with their young ones.
Also this morning, our Year 5 Gold Rushers braved the wet weather to go on their interactive excursion.
I look forward to hearing their tales of the day when they return to campus.
Mother's Day Junior School Gifts Stall
A very big thank you to the parent volunteer group that organised and ran the Mother's Day Stall this week.
It was the most popular shop on campus today and I hope that our mums enjoy their thoughtfully purchased gifts on Sunday.
"It Takes a Village" Partnership Program
As you have seen in the Junior School Parents Information Briefing earlier in the year (Link to YouTube), I strongly believe the students at Canterbury benefit most when all members of their community work together in partnership.
You will soon receive information regarding a new initiative we have called the It Takes A Village Partnership Program.
This program will see regular information, training and personal development sessions for parents and other community members, to come on campus and learn about and contribute to the Junior School.
Initial plans are to run sessions regarding volunteering at the school and cyber safety for students.
Later in the year, I will be asking our community members for their input to further develop what I hope will become a hallmark program here at Canterbury.
Outside School Hours Care
In the next week, parents who previously provided feedback to me regarding the Camp Australia Outside School Hours Care program will receive a follow-up survey.
I am keen to know if parents are noticing changes on the ground as we work with Camp Australia to continuously improve.
Please continue to provide general feedback to me at any time.
Under 8s Day
Our annual celebration of childhood - the Under 8s Day, is fast approaching and our Prep to Year 2 teams are planning creative activities for our students and their visiting parents and carers on the day.
To support these activities, we are asking families to donate the following items if they have them available:
- cardboard boxes and tubes
- paper plates
- streamers
- bamboo canes or other items suitable for frame building
- costumes, dress-ups and wigs (donations only as these cannot be returned)
- marbles
- general craft items to encourage creativity.
Uniforms Update
I have received some feedback regarding availability issues with Winter Uniform stock.
We understand the frustration this is continuing to cause and thank our families for their patience as we continue to work with The School Locker to consolidate our supplies.
Within the next few days the Communications Department will be publishing an update on all stock levels and availability.
Please be assured that staff will take uniform availability into consideration when speaking to students about their uniform wearing.
Prep 2023 Parent Information Evening
Parents with students in the Early Learning Centre who have applied for a position in Prep next year, will have received an offer of enrolment from Debbie Milne our College Registrar.
If you have not yet received an expected offer, please contact Debbie on or 07 3299 0822.
Attached to the offer of enrolment is an invitation to the Prep 2023 Parent Information Evening.
At this evening we will run through the orientation program planned for later in the year, some general information about Prep at Canterbury, and allow time for any questions you may have.

Library Borrowing
I ask that parents and carers please remind our students to be proactive in their use of the library.
Students are given the opportunity in class each week to borrow books from the library.
We ask that students take these books home, enjoy reading them, then return them the following week, and borrow another book.
If students are struggling to find books that spark their interest, a chat with our wonderful Teacher Librarian Ms Anita Pendreigh will set them on the right track - as there is a book for every interest in the Junior School Discovery Centre.
As educators and parents, we know that daily reading is a fundamental part of children's literacy development, so time spent reading a book is time well invested.
Junior School Musical - The Lion King
Earlier this week, students and parents received letters confirming student placements as a principal cast member or ensemble member for the 2022 Junior School production of The Lion King.
Congratulations to all students who auditioned; you showed great courage and community spirit.
Our cast members now have many weeks of challenging, yet rewarding rehearsals ahead of them.
More information will come from the production team regarding rehearsal dates and details, and opportunities for students and parents to volunteer their time in support of the show.

Year 10 Essential English – Language That Works: Job Applications Assessment
In Term 1, our Year 10 Essential English class undertook a rigorous and authentic unit designed for work-readiness.
This required students to respond to an initial survey on their interests and skills, to identify a compatible career path, followed by a search on employment websites for suitable jobs.
Our Year 10 students then created their CV and practised writing letters of application for their focus job.
The culminating assessment was engaging in a job interview.
To prepare for this, students scripted and practised a range of questions and responses, and then recorded themselves with a student partner, each taking the role of either interviewer or job candidate.
We could not be more proud of the professional conduct of our students, as they approached this task with serious enthusiasm, and presented themselves impeccably for the interview process.
They are now confidently prepared for future employment prospects with an updated and relevant CV and the skills to navigate the application process.
Particular thanks must go to their teacher Mr Peter van der Poel, for his determined direction and coaching in ensuring all students gave their very best, and also for the unwavering support of Ms Elaine Dobeli and her many words of wisdom.

Girls In ICT Day – Logan City Region Schools Event Wrap
International Girls In ICT Day took place on Thursday 28 April worldwide, and Canterbury College used the opportunity to promote careers in technology and STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - amongst the Logan City school community.
The 2022 theme was Access And Safety - promoting safe access for girls in the digital environment.
According to current data*, the proportion of women using the Internet globally amounts to 48% of the female population, compared to 55% of the male population.
If girls cannot access the Internet or feel safe online, they are consequently unable to develop the necessary digital skills to engage fully in digital spaces.
This diminishes their opportunities to pursue careers in STEM-related fields.
This 2022 theme seeks to encourage discussion and events aimed at overcoming the access and safety barriers that girls face when they aspire to pursue STEM studies and careers.

The Australian Computer Society (ACS), in partnership with Deloitte Access Economics, researches the ICT Industry every year and releases their findings in a publication entitled The Digital Pulse.
The Digital Pulse 2021 presented some startling facts about females in the ICT Industry in Australia.
These facts include:
- Female share of the total workforce is 47%.
- Female participation in ICT has remained unchanged from the previous two years at just 29%.
- The proportion of women in technology is significantly lower than other comparable occupations.
Matthew Jorgensen, ACS’s ICT Gateway to Industry School Program Project Manager, and Scott Millar from BOP Industries, supported Canterbury College to plan and host their own FREE Girls In ICT Day.
It was provided for Logan region school girls in Years 5 – 8, who are currently studying digital solutions, ICT and STEM, and who are interested in pursuing a technology career.
Held in the CEC with a full day of activities, students heard from talented female role models through keynotes, presentations, career stories and a discussion panel, where students submitted questions for the panel to answer.
Canterbury College’s Girls In ICT Day was organised with support from the ACS ICT GISP (Gateway to Industry Schools Program) and BOP Industries.
Canterbury is a proud member of the ICT GISP - a program designed to connect schools and students with industry leaders to offer students invaluable industry experience.
Canterbury’s acceptance into the program is recognition of our dedication to STEM and technology learning.

Uniform Pricing
Parents selling uniforms themselves can naturally decide their own item prices on the day.
Donated uniforms will not be specifically ‘priced’ so that purchasing parents can pay whatever they can afford or feel is reasonable.
Our goal is NOT making money BUT getting these second-hand uniforms into the hands of parents who need them!
Please Note: ALL profits from donated school uniforms will be split 50/50 between the Canterbury College Sport Supporters Group and Performing Arts Supporters Group. THANK YOU!
This is a CASH PREFERRED EVENT.
Parents selling items themselves will need their own cash float or Square Card Reader.
College donated items can be purchased preferably by cash, but Canterbury will provide a portable EFTPOS machine.
Please Note: Canterbury’s Saturday morning J/TAS Trimester Two sport will be running at the same time on the various ovals, up at the Canterbury Taipans Tennis Centre, in the nearby Sports Hall, plus over at the CEC on High Road.
NB: The Technology Precinct toilets at the rear of the Trade Training Centre will be open for use – please follow the signs.

“Thanks to COVID, there remains some new Canterbury uniform item supply delays.
That means there are still new students at the school, as well as those who moved up from Junior into Secondary, that may not have all their required uniform items.
As a parent at the school, I wanted to make a call out to the Canterbury Community for anyone that may have old uniforms gathering dust in their cupboards – from past student alumni or from kids who’ve outgrown them – that could help make another student feel more comfortable on campus.
January’s and February’s meets were a big hit with parents, so we’re hosting another one this Saturday morning to help even more families.
But we REALLY need more Secondary School uniforms donated or put on sale at the meet.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Here in Term 2, Canterbury will be offering the Net Set GO Program to our Junior School students in Prep – Year 3.
Net Set GO is Netball Australia’s only junior entry netball program.
It has been developed to provide children from 5 - 9 years of age with the best possible learning and playing experience, to develop a positive introduction to netball, ensuring enjoyment and continued participation.
This program will run over 5 weeks.
When: Monday Afternoons, 3:30pm – 4:30pm.
Sessions: First Session – THIS Monday 9 May 2022.
Final Session – Monday 6 June 2022.
Location: Canterbury Events Centre.
Students are to meet at the artificial grass area to be marked off the roll and taken across to the CEC by the supervising teacher.
Prep students and Year 1 students will meet at the ‘snail’ before being walked down to this meeting point.
At the end of the session, students need to be collected promptly from the CEC.
Uniform: Students can undertake this activity in the uniform that they need to wear on a Monday.
Some students may elect to change into sport shoes from their formal shoes.
Cost: The cost for this five-week program is $50.00 per student which is paid in advance.
This includes coaching and a netball pack for each participant.
