Year 7 Food & Hospitality Class Update
Year 7 Food & Hospitality Class Update
So far this term, our Year 7 Food & Hospitality class has been learning about Work Health & Safety (WHS) and Food Safety when working in a kitchen environment. 🍴👩🍳👨🍳
As part of this learning, it is essential that students put their new knowledge to use, developing their skills to work safely and hygienically.
This week saw students getting creative while preparing and presenting a colourful fruit platter.
Here, their knife skills were tested as they cut, sliced, peeled, and scooped the fruit into different shapes, to create a visually appealing plate of food.
We are happy to report there were no fingers harmed in the making of this mini photo gallery!

Our Taipan Roboneers: RoboRave Immersion Excursion Day
Our Taipan Roboneers: RoboRave Immersion Excursion Day
Today, 14 Canterbury Taipan Roboneers students visited Beenleigh’s Trinity College as part of a Robotics Immersion Day supported by RoboRave Australia.
Their robotics exploration included gaining a deeper understanding of automation through sensors, while networking with students from other schools.
The excursion culminated with students testing their skills in a friendly Sumo Robot Challenge with our mighty Roboneers coming 1st and 2nd.
Below is more detail about RoboRave Australia and the day…
- The 2022 Robotics Roadmap For Australia notes that: The development of robotic technologies in Australia will lead to the creation of new companies and new jobs, and will address a range of issues of national importance - including our ageing population, servicing regional and remote communities, and dealing with labour shortages, such as those generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. - Dr Sue Keay - Chair, Robotics Australia Group.
- Queensland enjoys a thriving robotics industry, used in diverse sectors such as mining, agriculture and health.
- Skills include programming, engineering, design and developing Artificial Intelligence solutions.
- The Information and Communications Technology Gateway to Industry Schools Program (ICT GISP) works with tech industry partners and schools to provide a better understanding of roles and careers in the tech industry, as well as initiatives to develop skills through experiential learning.
- Several ex-students have been a part of the RoboRave program and transitioned into careers in tech, robotics and automation.
- The ICT GISP has partnered with RoboRave to provide schools, students and teachers with a fun and engaging robotics immersion day, to complement the existing school robotics program.
- Students worked on their programming, collaboration and problem-solving skills during the day’s activities.
- You can find out more about RoboRave via their website HERE.
- The Australian Computer Society’s ICT Gateway to Industry Schools Program is proudly sponsored by the Queensland Government through the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training.

Annual Canterbury College St John's Cathedral City Service
Annual Canterbury College St John's Cathedral City Service
The Canterbury College Annual School Service was led by the Archdeacon of the Gold Coast, the Venerable Geoff Hoyte, standing in for the Bishop of the Southern Region. He is currently in England for the Lambeth Conference of Anglican bishops worldwide.
The students and staff were welcomed by the sound of the pipe organ, one of the largest and finest in Australia, with over four thousand pipes!
The Spirituality Captain, School Captains, Prefects and House Captains led the procession, carrying the College cross and banners.
They were followed by the Heads of House and the Principal’s party in their academic gowns.
Dr Katie Peddell and the College Choir led the singing, starting with the school hymn ‘Be thou my vision’ performed by the Cathedral Organist.
The Cathedral is an awe-inspiring worship space. It is the ‘mother church’ of all Anglican Christians and institutions in Queensland and the seat of the Archbishop of Brisbane.
It is Canterbury College’s spiritual home.
Archdeacon Geoff underscored this in his address. He pointed out that Anglicans believe in the Bible and that the Cathedral welcomes everyone, visitors and worshippers alike.
Geoff paid tribute to the College staff, recognising the importance of education in the nurturing of the next generation as well as some of the pressures faced by people in the teaching profession.
He counselled the students to focus on their studies, practice good conduct and behaviour and seek the common good now and in the future.
The service culminated in the breaking of bread, symbolising the life and work of Jesus Christ in the world, followed by Communion.
Students were invited to forward and receive the bread or blessing as appropriate.
Prayer was at centre of the service from beginning to end.
After the service, students and staff returned to College, having been fed in mind, body and spirit for the lifelong call to learn, teach and live well with others.

Where: Canterbury Events Centre (CEC) - Canterbury College.

It's that wonderful time again where our Junior School students are encouraged to come to school dressed as a character from a book they have enjoyed reading.
Please don’t feel that you must spend a lot of money or time on costumes, as it is always a light-hearted event.
The overall aim is to foster an enjoyment of reading, and for students to think about the characters in their books.
The theme this year is: Dreaming With Eyes Open.
The event will be held in the CEC and will run from 8:45am to approximately 9:45am.
Parents and carers are MOST welcome to attend!
Students are permitted to wear their costumes to school on the day, and should bring along their reference book, labelled with their name.
We also ask that students bring their PE uniform (or ELC uniform) to school, to change into at the conclusion of the Book Week Characters Parade.
Please contact Anita Pendreigh - or Brittany Sinclair - if you have any further questions.
