Secondary Boys & Girls Basketball: Special VIP Training Session With US High School Coach Andre Chevalier

Secondary Boys & Girls Basketball: Special VIP Training Session With US High School Coach Andre Chevalier

Select students from our Secondary Boys and Girls Basketball teams relished the special opportunity to participate in a VIP training session with US High School Coach Andre Chevalier.

Andre is the Head Coach of Boys Basketball at the Sierra Canyon High School over in Los Angeles, California.

He has worked with some future stars of the NBA including Bronny & Bryce James (sons of Lebron James), Justin & Scottie Pippen Jr (sons of Scottie Pippen), Ashton Hardaway (son of Penny Hardaway), KJ Martin (son of Kenyon Martin) and Zaire Wade (son of Dwyane Wade).

Andre has also coached current NBA players Marvin Bagley III and Brandon Boston Jr during their time at Sierra Canyon High.

Coach Chevalier's ability to develop young players and prepare them for the pressures of the game is second to none.

Referred to as the 'Head of the Snake,' Chevalier has spent six years as Head Coach of Sierra Canyon Boys Basketball.

These 'Trailblazers' have grown immensely, featured in their own Amazon Studios sponsored documentary series, have filled NBA stadiums, and won three Southern Section Championship titles from 2018 to 2020.

One of the key aspects of Coach Chevalier's coaching philosophy is the importance of fundamentals.

He believes that a strong foundation in the basics of basketball - such as dribbling, shooting, passing, and defence, is essential for every player, regardless of their skill level or age.

It was a short but intense and rewarding one-hour training session, that our students learnt a lot from, and exercised even harder during!

Thank you Coach Andre for taking time from your busy schedule to improve our eager basketballers with excellent guidance and encouragement.

Year 11 French: Monet In Paris Exhibition | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery

Yesterday, our Year 11 French students visited the 'Monet In Paris' exhibition over at Northshore Brisbane.

They were transported back in time to the dazzling world of 19th Century Paris, where Monet and the Impressionist masters led an unprecedented period of cultural and artistic flourishing.

Students enjoyed the beautiful artworks created by various Impressionists - Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas and many more.

They were projected at enormous scales in an epic display of light, colour, sound and fragrance.

Our students were able to learn more about the paintings, the history of the Impressionist movement, and it's impact on French culture.

Years 5 & 11 Ramsey House Wellbeing 'Campus Connections' Lesson | Making Cookies!

Years 5 & 11 Ramsey House Wellbeing 'Campus Connections' Lesson | Making Cookies!

Yesterday, our Years 5 and 11 Ramsey House students participated in a 'Campus Connections' lesson as part of our wider College Wellbeing Program.

Our Year 11 students had to plan and implement a lesson of their choice, to showcase the Secondary School to our Year 5 Junior School students.

Perhaps not surprisingly, their choice revolved around food!

They met up with the Year 5s at the border between the Junior and Secondary campuses, then journeyed together through the spine of our school to the 'Tech Deck'.

Under the guidance of Mrs Holly Westphal, our Ramsey Head of House, and Year 11 Hospitality student, Grace Coy, our students actually made their own cookies.

Smiles were aplenty during the lesson - especially when the flour went everywhere due to the over powered electric food mixer!

Despite our cookies needing a little more time to cook in the oven at the end of the lesson, the 'Cookie Monster' was able to deliver them to the Year 5s in time for lunch.

Thank you to the Year 5 teachers for bringing their Year 5 Ramsey students along.

Our Year 11 Ramsey students are eagerly looking forward to their next 'Campus Connections' lesson!

2023 Year 1 Fire Incursion | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery

2023 Year 1 Fire Incursion | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery

Yesterday, our excited Year 1 students were visited by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

They learnt many valuable tips about fire safety - including identifying 'good and bad' fires, the uses and importance of smoke alarms, and what to do in the event of a bad fire.

Our Year 1s were fascinated to see all the tools and gear used by our firefighters, and even got to test their strength and spray down an imaginary fire!

Thank you to these wonderful firefighters for taking time out from their busy schedules to educate our students on-site!

Sunday's Canterbury Music @ Customs House Showcase Concert | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery

Sunday's Canterbury Music @ Customs House Showcase Concert | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery

On Sunday morning, after a long hiatus, we held our 2023 Canterbury Music @ Customs House Showcase Concert, in the beautiful heritage-listed riverside building.

It was a wonderful morning of music, as our highly talented Cantabile choir, Ritornello strings ensemble, Canterbury String Quartet, Trio Volante and Trio Bellissimo, joined our top student soloists - Dylan You (Clarinet), Isabella Oxenbridge (Piano), George Li (Cello), Luka Roberts (Trumpet) and Haydn Li (Viola).

Together, they all thrilled the 115-strong ticketed audience with their brilliant performances.

Former long time Queensland Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster, and Canterbury's esteemed Violin Teacher, Mr Warwick Adeney, returned to the stage to perform with Trio Bellissimo.

Thank you to Ms Gloria Shin and Mr Tim Li for their fine accompaniment on the piano for the various performances.

It was a beautiful event on a perfect sunny day in the city...
