2023 Junior School Class Placements

2023 Junior School Class Placements

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our classroom teachers will shortly begin the process of thinking about class placements for next year.

Please appreciate the creation of class lists is a complex process that involves significant thought and effort.

Teachers look at several factors including: friendships, academic levels, working relationships, student personality/teacher personality, learning needs, behaviour management, male/female ratios, requests and sibling’s teachers.

While our teachers are always willing to listen to parents, the class teacher, who has a great knowledge of their colleagues’ teaching styles, as well as the learning needs of the children in their care, is the person best placed to determine the most appropriate teacher for your child.

Please note, that as part of this process, it is not possible to request a particular teacher, nor can we guarantee any requests.

In previous years, historical information has been gathered and will be utilised to inform this year’s process.

It should also be noted, we are still organising teachers and their corresponding year levels, and this may not be finalised until close to the end of the school year.

Subsequently, any specific teacher or classroom requests may be irrelevant.

Any information concerning class placements should be directed to me via email -

The final date for any information regarding class placements is 5pm Friday 14 October 2022 as this will allow us time to process all the information.

Class placement will be shared with students on our orientation day in late November.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Michelle Leftwich
Head of Junior School

Book Lists For 2023 - Supplier: Campion Education | Orders Must Be Placed By Friday 4 November 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

The 2023 book list supplies are now ready to order online.

Campion Education is our new supplier for 2023 and they provide an efficient online ordering system as well as a convenient shopfront service in Salisbury.

We have found Campion to be a flexible and very economical option for our Canterbury families.

In a change from previous years, Early Learning Centre, Prep and Year 1 students will have book list supplies delivered to Canterbury in a bulk order.

This has greatly reduced the cost of the book lists and will also assist class teachers of these early years to prepare classrooms for the first day of school.

Parents will be contacted regarding payment for these items early in 2023 with payment to be made via Parent Lounge.

Year 2 through to Year 6 have itemised lists on the Campion website, with notes where applicable regarding items from previous years, that can be retained if in good condition.

This will help to further reduce costs for parents.

Book list items for Years 2 – 6 can be either delivered to homes for a $10.95 delivery fee or picked up in person from Campion Education’s retail store located at Unit 5/121 Evans Rd Salisbury QLD 4107.

To order your supplies, please visit THIS weblink, create an account, log in and order your supplies entering the unique Canterbury code of VTWM to access the book lists.

Orders must be placed by Friday the 4 of November to ensure delivery before the commencement of the 2023 school year.

Delivery orders placed by the due date will be delivered in the week ending Friday 9 December 2022.

Please note that due to supply chain challenges, your delivery may arrive outside the original estimated delivery timeframe.

Collection orders placed by the due date will be available in the week beginning Monday 5 December 2022 at the Campion Education Retail Service Centre in Salisbury.

Orders can still be placed after the due date by visiting the Campion website or Retail Service Centre however, full stock availability cannot always be guaranteed for orders placed after the due date.

For those parents who prefer to purchase the booklist items from their supplier of choice, printable booklists for Years 2 – 6 are available via the Junior School page on MyCC.

I trust that our new supplier, Campion Education, will provide a seamless service and provide stationery items of a higher quality and lower price than in previous years.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Michelle Leftwich
Head of Junior School

Introducing Canterbury's New Deputy Principal Starting 2023: Meagan King

Introducing Canterbury's New Deputy Principal Starting 2023: Meagan King

To the Canterbury Community,

I have great pleasure in announcing and introducing Meagan King as the new Deputy Principal of Canterbury College.

She will commence in January 2023.

Meagan joins Canterbury from the Methodist Ladies College over in Perth, where she has held the executive leadership position of Director of Innovation, since January 2020.

Meagan is, however, a Queenslander at heart, having held senior leadership positions - including Director of Teaching, Learning and Academic Performance at A.B. Paterson College on the Gold Coast between 2013 and 2019.

Her career, spanning coeducational and single-sex schools - in both the public and independent sector, including The Hale School in Western Australia, and Moreton Bay Boys’ College in Brisbane, has been characterised by a consistent and unrelenting focus on improving academic standards and building capacity in her teaching teams.

Through the application process, Meagan impressed the selection panel with her clear and well-defined views and experience, regarding quality teaching and learning, staff development and curriculum innovation portfolios.

Significantly, Meagan is the creator and convenor of the national Innovation In Education Festival, a role that has positioned her as one of the leading educational thinkers in the country.

Meagan holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney and a Master of Education (Gifted Education) from the University of New England.

She has vast teaching experience from ELC to Year 12, including in the area of Mathematics, which she will teach at Canterbury.

As we implement our new teaching and learning framework - The Canterbury Way, Meagan will add significant value and wisdom.

This will ensure the quality of differentiated and personalised classroom teaching from Prep to Year 12, continues to improve over time.

Meagan will relocate to Queensland with her husband Des and two sons - Nathan and Lucas, in time to commence in the new year.

I have no doubt that in the years ahead, Meagan will lead our academic, co-curricular and staff development programs of the College with great imagination and skill.

I also take this opportunity to thank our Head of Secondary School, Mrs Rebecca Adamson, for her time acting as Deputy Principal in Term 4 this year.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Dan Walker
Principal
