ENSEMBLES INFORMATION
Canterbury Dance Troupe (Years 7-12)
This non-auditioned, non-competitive team is dedicated to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for students eager to embrace the art of movement and dance.
Exploring choreography, jazz and contemporary dance styles, the Canterbury Dance Troupe offers a perfect opportunity for students to explore the skills of creating and performing dance in a nurturing environment.
Show Team (Years 7-9) and Canterbury Dance Company (Years 10-12)
Both the Show Team and Canterbury Dance Company are auditioned teams providing an opportunity for students to participate in competitive dancing for the College.
The team goal is to build on existing skills in musicality, coordination, confidence and stage presence, while developing skills in the jazz and lyrical/contemporary dance styles.
Students will compete in various eisteddfods, and perform at school events such as Assemblies, the annual Canterbury Dance Spectacular and stage musicals.
Hip Hop Varsity (Years 7-12)
This auditioned dance team allows students to participate in competitive Hip Hop dancing with the College, while the team goal is to build on skills in this Hip Hop style.
Students will compete in various eisteddfods and perform at the annual Canterbury Dance Spectacular.
Students in Hip Hop Varsity are permitted to also audition for the Show Team or the Canterbury Dance Company if they wish.
Hip Hop Squad (Years 7-12)
This non-auditioned dance team provides an avenue for students to learn and perform Hip Hop with the College in a non-competitive environment.
The team goal is to develop technical and expressive skills in this modern dance style.
Students will perform at the annual Canterbury Dance Spectacular, and Hip Hop Squad students are permitted to audition for other ensembles if they wish.
NEW - SFD Technique Class (Years 4-10)
This is a jazz technique class where students study the SFD: Southern Federation of Dance exam syllabus and prepare for an optional exam at the end of the year.
These skills further enhance technical and expressive dance abilities to support excellence across all ensembles.

Auditions are always competitive with many students attending each year.
Given the limited number of available dance positions, regrettably, not all students can be accommodated for every audition-based team.
So please respect that audition decisions made by our staff are final.
Additionally, it is important to note that securing a spot within a team for a specific year, does not automatically ensure a place in the following years.
Enrolment for the 2025 Canterbury Dance Troupe (CDT), Hip Hop Squad (HHS) and Southern Federation of Dance (SFD) Technique Class is via Clipboard and will open in Term 4, 2024.
The current 2024 teams will continue rehearsals as per the Term 4 schedule that will be posted on MyCC.
If there is enough interest, enrolments for the new BoyzCrew (Years 7-10) will open in Term 1, 2025 via Clipboard (Time TBA).

More Information
The Scene Project is a participatory style project, which involves schools in the creative process of performance, from rehearsal through to final presentation.
The Scene Project is about acknowledging students and teachers as artists and encouraging live performance in a professional space and manner.
The Scene Project gives students the opportunity to access a newly commissioned script and stage a public performance.
This year's text is ‘Flowers In Antarctica’ by Wendy Mocke.
Ancient rivals and custodians of the sea, Whales and Orcas live in understanding and fear of each other.
For centuries they’ve always had a shared enemy: HUMANS.
Now the seas are warmer, the ice caps are melting, and it’s affecting everyone in the ocean world.
But that’s not what’s drawn everyone to the urgent Ocean Tribal council.
The arrival of a foreign species off the coast of Manus, Papua New Guinea, is creating more of a threat.
An alien life form planning to seize earth from the sea up.
Sahul and Sunda, a teen orca and teen whale, could be what everyone needs to save the planet and the animal kingdom as we know it...
----------
So you are warmly invited to view the LIVE performance of Canterbury's 2024 The Scene Project work on Thursday 5 September in the Performing Arts Theatre from 5:30pm until 6:00pm.
Regards
Mr Matthew Kopelke

Celebrating Queensland's School Crossing Supervisors’ 40 Years Service During National Road Safety Week (Monday 26 – Friday 30 August)
This year, Queensland’s School Crossing Supervisor Scheme celebrates 40 years of keeping kids safe as they travel to and from school.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is celebrating this milestone across the state during this Queensland Road Safety Week (26-30 August 2024).
So we'd like to say a big ‘thank you’ to our wonderful Canterbury School Crossing Supervisors for everything you do for our students and school community.
You do a great job keeping our students and other pedestrians safe, as they cross the road in peak drop-off and pick-up times.
You too can show your appreciation for our School Crossing Supervisors by slowing down, following directions, and being courteous while travelling within our school zone during peak times.
Did You Know?
- The School Crossing Supervisor Scheme is operated by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
- There are more than 2,000 school crossing supervisors who operate over 1,300 crossings at more than 700 Queensland schools.
- There has not been a single fatality on a supervised crossing since the scheme started in 1984!
More information and resources are located on the StreetSmarts Queensland Website HERE.
