Club Championships | Rules & Eligibility Conditions

  1. Only registered financial Canterbury Taipans Swimming Club Members are eligible to compete in these Club Championships.
  2. Competitors can only compete in their assigned age group and events.
  3. Events will be swum as multi-age events with places awarded based on assigned age groups.
  4. Competitors are encouraged to nominate for as many eligible events as possible.
  5. Stroke age champions will be announced for both the Boys and Girls Divisions, with the overall Boys and Girls Club Champions to be decided via a total points system.
  6. The more events you nominate for and swim in – the more points you gain towards being the Club Champion.
  7. In the event of an equal points situation, a ‘swim-off’ will be held where each competitor chooses their favourite event from the evening, then swims this event again, to try and match their previous time. These competitors can swim different strokes and lengths to each other. Closest time to the original time wins the ‘swim off’.
  8. Being a club level event, there will be rule tolerance, meaning it is not necessary for swimmers to be technically correct – but they must start in a fair manner.
  9. Coaches reserve the right to re-start or re-run events, or disqualify individual competitors from events, should it be required.

Club Championships | Events & Age Groups

Club Championships - Events & Age Groups Table

Club Championships | Awards & Records

First, second and third places will be awarded for each competitive age group, swimming stroke and race distance category.

In each age-competitive event, competitors can accrue points towards the Age Champion for each swimming stroke according to their placement.

The overall Boys and Girls Club Champions will be awarded to the swimmers with the highest overall points scored during the evening.

Points are awarded as follows:

5 points for each first place | 3 points for each second place | 1 point for each third place.

Reminder: Any tie-breaks will require you to try and match your previous race time in a swim-off with the closest time winning.

Underdog Film Fest Season Launch | FIRST EVER Logan City Film Festival: Featuring Canterbury Student Films, Peter Dowd & Trio Bellissimo

We are looking forward to seeing some of our Canterbury student films at the upcoming FIRST EVER Logan City Film Festival as part of the Underdog Film Fest Season Launch.

Not only will some Canterbury student films be screened on the night, but our Film, TV and New Media Teacher Mr Peter Dowd will be speaking, and our highly talented Trio Bellissimo music ensemble will be entertaining guests.

There were at least 120 registrations for this free event - including local and state government representatives, before bookings closed last Friday 9 February.

So it’s sure to be a great night out exceeding original crowd expectations.

The Underdog Film Fest committee created this season launch to host an evening of food and refreshments for locals to learn more about their new festival – the esteemed judges, award categories and discover how they will create opportunities for learning and engagement with Queensland’s film industry.

Underdog Film Fest has been developed in partnership with filmmakers, film and media teachers, tertiary institutions, plus arts and community organisations, to support the growth of the local film industry.

This season launch will proudly showcase a collection of short films from SAE Institute alumni, as well as Canterbury College, Windaroo Valley SHS and Shailer Park SHS students.

Underdog Film Fest is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland, while the Season Launch Event is proudly supported by the Logan City Council.

Laptop Accessories Costs & Tekskin Replacements Limited Time FREE Offer (Device Identification Stickers)

Laptop Accessories Costs & Tekskin Replacements Limited Time FREE Offer (Device Identification Stickers)

Dear Parents and Carers,

Due to various factors - including market fluctuations and increased production costs, we are informing you that there has been a modest increase in the prices of laptop accessories.

These prices have been in effect from the first day of school and are reflected on MyCC under the IT Services Tab.

We have kept this increase at a minimal level and appreciate your understanding.

If you encounter any difficulties or have concerns about these adjusted prices, please feel free to reach out to the Director of IT and Services.

Tekskin (Device Identification Stickers)

Tekskin has been placed on every College owned laptop for easy identification, protection and to ensure a seamless experience for both students and staff, and is a compulsory requirement.

However, we have observed that some students are currently missing these stickers on their devices.

To rectify this, and to continue fostering a secure and organized environment, the IT Department is pleased to offer FREE replacements for any missing Tekskin stickers until Friday 1 March 2024.

We encourage all students to take advantage of this complimentary service to ensure their devices are properly identified within the College network.

It is important to note that from Monday 4 March 2024, the charge to replace the Tekskin will be $10.00 for each replacement.

To request a replacement Tekskin, students need to visit the IT Helpdesk with their devices.

For any enquiries related to this matter, please reach out to the IT Department -

Thank you for your support as always.

Mr Afzal Shariff
Director of IT and Services

School Zone Safety | Advice & Reminders For Motorists, Parents & Carers - The Road Safety Office | SEQ South Region

School Zone Safety | Advice & Reminders For Motorists, Parents & Carers - The Road Safety Office | SEQ South Region

With school back for 2024, we need to keep safety top-of-mind when travelling through active school zones and around our school community.

School zone times have been standardised throughout Queensland to help motorists remember when to slow down.

The standard operating times for most school zones in Queensland are 7am – 9am and 2pm – 4pm, with some operating all day between 7am – 4pm.

Speeding remains a significant concern, contributing to fatalities and injuries, and police will be on the lookout for speeding motorists.

Keeping below the signed speed limit in school zones helps keep everyone safe.

This simple adjustment may have minimal impact on travel time, but has the potential to significantly contribute to saving lives.

Children's Crossings are identified by children's crossing flags, displayed near crossings before and after school hours.

When the crossing is supervised, motorists must:

  • Wait until all pedestrians, bicycle riders, or personal mobility device riders have crossed the road and the crossing supervisor has returned to the footpath.
  • Abide by the direction given by any official School Crossing Supervisor.

Please keep our children safe by staying alert, slowing down and obeying our School Crossing Supervisors who are there to help kids cross the road safely.

You can also help children become more road safety aware by:

  • Showing them how to look for vehicles coming in and out of driveways.
  • Discouraging them from playing behind parked cars, or with toys or balls, while walking to and from school.
  • Ensuring your child knows the safest route to and from school – this is usually the way with the least traffic and the fewest roads to cross.
  • Teaching your child to always walk on the footpaths.
  • Showing your child how to cross at traffic lights when the green 'walk' sign is showing at pedestrian crossings, and when all vehicles have stopped.
  • Showing your child how to cross at supervised school crossings when the supervisor has signalled it is safe to do so.
  • Accompanying children when walking or riding to school until they are old enough to understand road safety – usually around 10 years or older.
  • Teaching your child if they catch the bus, to never cross in front of or behind a bus; and to wait until the bus goes, before crossing the road.
  • Making sure any wheeled devices (bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades) used to travel to school are well maintained, and that the appropriate protective and safety gear (helmet, visible clothing, knee and elbow pads etc) are used.

Visit the Street Smarts Website for more information about what to do at pedestrian and children crossings.

Kind regards
