2022 Secondary School Interhouse Athletics Carnival: THIS FRIDAY
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am sure, like us, you currently have some tired teenagers who are looking forward to the mid-year school holidays.
The opportunity to re-energise before the very busy Term 3 is definitely needed.
We ensure class disruption is minimal throughout the term itself, and reserve our special carnival days for the end of term, like this Friday 17 June.
The Term 2 Interhouse Athletics Carnival is a wonderful opportunity for all students to get involved, have some fun with their friends, enjoy some outdoor exercise, get competitive on the track, and earn some points for their House.
This carnival is different in that students of ALL athletic abilities are given an opportunity to participate across the entire day.
They spend the event with their year level moving through a variety of activities including: ball games, javelin, discus, shot put and 100m and 200m participation runs.
Students also cheer on their friends in the competitive events.
The day concludes with the Clash of the Chants and an All Ages Relay, where we see House and College spirit at its best.
And our Year 12 students check off another last... their last school Athletics Carnival.
Students are engaged for the whole school day and have great fun with their friends and the students in their House.
I encourage you all to send your son or daughter to school this Friday to be a part of this great event and a part of the College community.
They will have three full weeks to rejuvenate before returning to school on Monday 11 July 2022.
Remember there is no Student Free Day to commence Term 3 after the many Term 1 school days lost to COVID and February's Logan Floods.
I look forward to watching our students challenge themselves, surprise themselves with what they can do, and have some fun.

• Includes: Running Technique, High Jump, Long Jump, Discus, Shotput, Javelin.
• All events are rotated through each 3-hour session to maximise engagement.
• Our program teaches basic skills & fitness for each event in a safe & fun environment.
• Participants need to bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and morning tea snack.
• Ice block provided each day after the session is finished.
Time: 8:00am – 11:00am each morning.
DAY 4 Thursday: Participants MUST pack swimming gear for a special 11am - 12pm noon swim session AND 12pm noon Pizza Party at the adjoining Aquatic Centre.

You work for a company that builds spaceships, and you’ve received a new contract to build a new space settlement that orbits Earth.
Your company has various departments…
Maybe you are looking after the interior and exterior features of the settlement?
Maybe it’s your job to provide for the wellbeing of the residents living in the settlement?
How will they entertain themselves? How will they stay safe and healthy? How will the settlement look after food, water and power for its residents?
Perhaps you need to describe just how the settlement should be constructed, and determine what materials are needed?
Perhaps you need to design machines for the settlement – cranes, jigs, robots etc?
Or maybe you are looking after the costs of the job?
How much do the workers earn? How much do construction materials cost?
The Australian Space Design Competition (ASDC) puts you in a team where you are designing a space settlement from top to bottom.
There is no activity more sci-fi than the ASDC!

Our students investigated ergonomics and semantics, with the goal of improving the user experience and understanding of a product of their choice.

On Friday 3 June 2022, we held our Junior School Disco for students in Years 3 – 6.
The disco had a professional DJ, bubbles, a smoke machine, conga lines and a kaleidoscope of lights. The dancing was high energy, with water breaks in between. It was a night to remember!

What Is Involved?
Years 5-9 students join a team as part of this international competition!
As a team, they need to commit to participating throughout Terms 3 and 4.
Students will attend two sessions per week in-term.
These are Tuesday and Friday in the Secondary Library Digital Hub after school from 3:30pm - 4:30pm.
If you would like to join, but can't attend both sessions, you can make up a session on Wednesday during lunch play.
