Dual Olympian & Sevens Rugby Superstar Charlotte Caslick OAM Visits Canterbury! 🏉🙌🏻☺️

Dual Olympian & Sevens Rugby Superstar Charlotte Caslick OAM Visits Canterbury! 🏉🙌🏻☺️

Charlotte Caslick OAM is an Australian professional Rugby Union, Sevens Rugby, Touch Football and Rugby League player who’s represented Australia at two Summer Olympic Games - the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 (2021) Tokyo Olympics in Sevens Rugby.

Her team won gold at the 2016 Rio Games and finished fifth at the most recent Tokyo Games.

She was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the sport in the 2017 Australia Day Honours list, and was named World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year and Female Sevens Player of the Year in 2016.

Not long after graduating from high school, she debuted for Australian Women’s Rugby, representing her country at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival and 2013 Rugby Sevens World Cup, as well as playing for Touch Football Australia at both age-grade and open levels.

She was named in World Rugby's 2014–15 Team of the Season after another stellar year, and one of four players nominated for the 2015 World Sevens Player of the Year.

Charlotte was also voted Player of the Tournament in the Australian Nationals.

By December 2015, she’d already earned 13 caps and scored 31 tries over that two-year period.

In October 2016, Caslick was named as Australia's Women’s Sevens Player of the Year.

The Brisbane-born (Corinda) Charlotte also played for the Sydney Roosters in the 2020 NRL Women's Premiership before two small spinal fractures ended her season prematurely during her second match playing at five-eighth.

Caslick has been described as "the best women's rugby sevens player on the planet" and "a key member of the Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens team" AND was 'Coach for a Day' here at Canterbury College where we caught up for a chat!

2021 Battle Of The Rock Bands Competition - '21 Laneway' Wins Gold!

2021 Battle Of The Rock Bands Competition - '21 Laneway' Wins Gold!

Last night Canterbury Rock Band 21 Laneway performed at the 2021 Battle of the Rock Bands competition hosted by Clairvaux MacKillop College.

Despite the high standard of the ten bands that competed, 21 Laneway 'blew the roof off' as the final band to perform live on stage.

And they emerged victorious winning the Gold Award!

2022 Arts Captain and current Year 11 student Nathaniel Harris also received the award for Most Outstanding Rock Musician of the night!

Double Boom!!

It was fantastic to see the number of Canterbury parents, students and alumni that came out to support our students at the event in the crowd.

The whole band came away buzzing after an action-packed evening, and they look forward to performing at more events such as our Sports Awards Evening and Spring Music Festival later this term.

Rock On Canterbury... and 21 Laneway! 🤟🎸

Volleyball QLD Year 12 Schools Cup Results 🏐

Volleyball QLD Year 12 Schools Cup Results 🏐

Our Open Boys and Open Girls competed in the Volleyball Queensland Year 12 Senior Schools Cup over the long weekend from 2-4 October.

These teams were comprised of Years 9-12 students who were willing to take on the challenge of playing in the Honours division - i.e. battling against the 'best of the best' Year 12 teams across Queensland.

The Honours competition is selection-based and requires schools to meet a criterion upon entry.

Our recent success and improvements throughout the TAS competition, and previous performance history in the Schools Cup, allowed us entry into the Honours level of this competition.

As it was our first time competing in the Open Honours category, there were understandably plenty of nerves in the lead up to the competition.

With big names such as Craigslea, Kelvin Grove, Benowa and Capalaba - just to name a few, the Canterbury Taipans put in their best efforts to do the school proud.

Although the contest was tough, our Taipans stepped up across the board and did not disappoint.

The honesty, resilience and integrity of all our players throughout the long weekend was evident, as they bounced back from bigger and faster opponents, to notch a few wins under our belt.

With the Boys finishing in 6th place and the Girls finishing in 8th place, the Taipans volleyballers made a mark on the Honours competition, with many schools surprised at our debut performance high standard.

Congratulations to all our athletes over the weekend! 🐍🏐
