SEQ Rugby 7s School Girls Competition Friday Wrap

SEQ Rugby 7s School Girls Competition Friday Wrap

A big effort from our girls teams, representing 32 Canterbury students, at the South-East Queensland Rugby 7s School Girls Competition, held at the Redcliffe Rugby Union Club last Friday.

Against a very strong and huge regional field of Brisbane, Logan and Gold Coast area schools, our U13, U15 and U18 girls teams all finished in third place!

We were the only SEQ independent school to jag top three finishes in every age group, which shows how quickly our Rugby 7s Academy is taking shape, and the benefit of our Year 9 and 10 curriculum subject.

Canterbury player Fleur Ginn (pictured) was even named the U15 Player of the Tournament.

Our goal is to be the top independent school in SEQ for Girls Rugby 7s.

Great job everybody!

Are You Ready For The Sudsy Challenge?

Are You Ready For The Sudsy Challenge?

https://youtu.be/wb3Dqg-P76M

Thanks to Lilly Rider from Year 9 for her video intro – the driving force behind The Sudsy Challenge here at Canterbury…

This term we are supporting Orange Sky Laundry by participating in The Sudsy Challenge.

This will run from Thursday 16 - Friday 17 September 2021 - the last two school days of Term 3.

The Sudsy Challenge is all about understanding what it's like to be homeless, by going without washing for two days.

So what does this mean? It means if you join our team, you will be wearing the same set of clothes, without washing, for two days!

How Do You Get Involved?

Canterbury students and staff can sign up via MyCC or Teams using the weblink within the article.

It’s FREE to sign up, but you will need to raise money prior to September 16 if you wish to participate fully at school.

Canterbury Sudsy Challenge Sign Up Page

  1. Raise $24 before 11:59pm THIS Wednesday 1 September 2021 so you get The Sudsy T-Shirt.
  2. Then continue raising money – our goal is $5,000 this year.
  3. Wear your orange The Sudsy Challenge T-Shirt for 2 full days from September 16 – 17 (see below for details on how we'll be doing this at school).
  4. If you don’t want to sign up – please support a friend or simply make a donation.

For more information, please see The Sudsy Challenge Website.

Students will be required to wear their formal shirt to and from school - over the top of their Sudsy Challenge T-Shirt - during the challenge and during House Chorale.

At other times, the bright orange Sudsy Challenge T-Shirt can be worn around school.

If you intend on wearing the same set of clothes for the entire time, please ensure you wear something that can be covered by your formal school uniform if necessary.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you...

Youth Theatre Sports: Junior & Senior Secondary Competitions

Youth Theatre Sports: Junior & Senior Secondary Competitions

Recently, Canterbury’s Junior (Years 7-9) and Senior (Years 10-12) Secondary Theatre Sports Teams participated in the Youth Theatre Sports Competition, hosted at local area schools.

Both teams had their respective audiences laughing, as they navigated their way through improvised acts, where the scenarios were only given to them literally seconds beforehand.

Such a fun event for all involved!

Thanks to Mrs Kirk for your work with these teams.

So students, if you have a passion for Secondary Drama, and a flair for Theatre Sports, please search our MyCC under Co-Curricular / Performing Arts / Drama / Theatre Sports.

Canterbury Alumni Patrick Ryan – Wheelchair Rugby Paralympian

Canterbury Alumni Patrick Ryan – Wheelchair Rugby Paralympian

With the 2020 Paralympics starting tonight with the Opening Ceremony in Tokyo…

Canterbury Alumni Patrick Ryan was part of the Australian Steelers Wheelchair Rugby Team and represented Australia at the Paralympics and World Wheelchair Rugby Championships.

He attended Canterbury College from 1994 – 1996.

Wheelchair Rugby made its debut as an official Paralympic sport at the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games.

Patrick was part of the team that won the silver medal, losing to then World Champions the United States by one point.

He also competed in the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games and 2002 and 2006 World Championships held in Gothenburg (Sweden) and Christchurch (New Zealand) respectively.

The Australian Steelers won the bronze medal at the 2002 World Championships.

Wheelchair Rugby is an intense, contact team sport played on a basketball-sized court.

The game combines elements of basketball, soccer and ice hockey and is played in eight-minute quarters.

Four players from each team compete on court at any one time.

A volleyball is used and it can be carried, dribbled or passed in any way except kicking.

The ball must also be bounced every 10 seconds.

Good luck to all our Aussie Paralympians over the next fortnight! 🦘
