What is SPARK?

SPARK is an elective-based hands-on curriculum for Years 5 & 6 students that is unique to Canterbury.

Each semester our students choose a subject to study. Then students from both year levels are combined in the same classroom and taught by highly specialised staff.

These subjects include: Business | Film, TV & New Media | Food & Hospitality | History | Literature | Photography | Science | Sport & Fitness | Visual Arts.

SPARK is about building curiosity, encouraging students to try something different and providing an exceptional opportunity to embark on their own learning journey as part of their ‘World Ready’ Canterbury education.

When does SPARK occur?

SPARK happens once per week with students encouraged to continue their learning beyond the classroom.

How does SPARK link to the curriculum?

SPARK focuses on the Australian Curriculum’s general capabilities looking at critical and creative thinking, personal and social capability, ethical understanding and intercultural understanding.

How can I see my child’s learning?

The Junior School will hold a learning exhibition at the end of each semester, where all students will have something to exhibit based on their SPARK sessions.

This is that EXPO – our very first one at the college…

Scholastic Junior School Book Fair

Dear Parents & Carers,

I am happy to announce the Scholastic Junior School Book Fair is back at Canterbury in 2021.

Starting Wednesday 9 June and concluding Monday 14 June, primary students will be able to create a wishlist based on all the great titles available and on display to purchase these books.

The Discovery Centre Junior Library will be open beyond normal school hours from 7:30am - 8:15am and from 3:15pm - 4:30pm during Book Fair school days, for wishlist orders, book collections and processing payments via cash or EFTPOS.

Stationery can be purchased at the main lunch break from 1:30pm – 2:15pm.

Each Book Fair is designed to give children access to more books they want to read, from relevant new-releases to classic award-winners.

As your children grow, Book Fairs make it easy to ensure their home libraries grow with them.

Our Taipans Netball Juggernaut Rolls On…

This week our Canterbury Taipans Netballers competed in the Northern South Coast Regional Qualifiers for the Vicki Wilson Shield and Vicki Wilson Cup Championships.

The Vicki Wilson Championships is the largest netball competition open to all Queensland secondary schools.

Our Cup team finished the tournament undefeated - beating the Helensvale SHS Hawks.

Our Shield Taipan Blue team kept their undefeated regional record intact.

Our Shield Taipan Red team had an outstanding tournament finishing fifth overall.

Our Canterbury Shield team has medalled every year since the division’s inception, and will be aiming to take out a third straight GOLD medal in the State Finals in August.
