Interested in joining our Canterbury Taipans Swim Squad program to make new friends, get fitter and more flexible, and enjoy some fun or fierce swimming competition?

Then please come along…

We have an amazing team of swimmers and coaches who love training and actively attend both Social and Competitive Swim Meets around Logan City, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Now Swim Squads are ability-focused, so anyone attending needs to have a reasonable level of competency across ALL four swimming strokes - freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly.

And you must be able to complete laps of our heated, 10-lane, 50-metre Olympic-sized swimming pool in all strokes unaided.

Our qualified and experienced coaches will take you through warm-ups, stroke drills, diving practice, and fitness activities, with the intent of providing feedback on your recommended Swim Squad Level.

Our Canterbury Taipans Aquatic Centre’s Learn To Swim Coordinator and General Manager will be available to answer any questions regarding the different Swim Squad Levels and our Swimming Club membership options.

See you there and Splash On!

EMPOWERED For Life – BRIDGE BUILDERS®

Relationships are an essential part of school and life.

Learning how to make healthy friendships and manage difficult relationships are essential life skills for all ages.

Conflict is a normal part of any community, however, unresolved or poorly resolved conflict, can cause children to feel devalued, stressed and separated from others.

It can also reduce their ability to be learners and sometimes even lead to bullying.

Some children today, are growing up more confident in operating technical devices than dealing with frustration, developing flexible thinking, or problem-solving challenging relationships.

In a world that is rapidly changing, increasing in anxiety and fear, and reinforcing isolation, the teaching, modelling and encouraging of emotional and social skills by parents and carers has never been more important.

Jocelyne Chirnside is a mother of three and a teacher of 37 years, and the creator of the BRIDGE BUILDERS® Program.

Canterbury College is equipping your child with tools to deal with everyday conflict and reduce bullying through this program.

Jocelyne is passionate about creating cultural change and equipping adults with a consistent understanding, language and skills to empower their children to be resilient and resolve their own conflict.

We hope you can join us in helping your child be EMPOWERED For Life!

This session will explore the following skills and topics:

  • Understanding Choices – the difference between conflict and bullying.
  • Responses – the physiological and neural reactions to conflict or bullying.
  • Growing Resilience Skills.
  • Managing Conflict – BRIDGE BUILDERS® skills and language.

Guest Speaker: Jocelyne Chirnside M.Ed. (Hons), Dip. T.

Author, researcher, teacher and creator of the BRIDGE BUILDERS® Program and a National Social and Emotional Learning Consultant in schools.

Also available for purchase:

Jocelyne's book about the BRIDGE BUILDERS® Program: EMPOWERED for LIFE – Equipping children to deal with everyday conflict and bullying.

Sunday’s 2024 JDS Gold Coast Region: Canterbury Taipans U17 Junior Tennis Singles Tournament | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery

Sunday’s 2024 JDS Gold Coast Region: Canterbury Taipans U17 Junior Tennis Singles Tournament | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery

On Sunday 18 February, our Canterbury Taipans Tennis Centre hosted some great upcoming junior tennis players, who represent the Gold Coast Region – a super way to start our first JDS of the year.

Beautiful sunny weather shone upon these talented young future tennis champions, who were all putting their highest game on show on the courts.

Truly a good number of prodigies were present – Ocean, Maxwell, Sebastian, Havanna, Tayla, Samuel, Kira, Brodie, Jordan, Deniz, Aran, Sami, Kaito – so many players…

Many thanks to the Beenleigh Tennis Club’s Kiel and A.J. for supporting and helping us out on the day with extra courts – we couldn't have done it without you.

Special thanks to the tennis parents and carers too – you guys are the real ‘behind the scenes’ champions during your children’s formative tennis years.

And congratulations to all the players themselves; to the eventual tournament winners; the Canterbury Tennis staff – Kym, Cameron and Pierre; and to Ryan Kebs of KDV – love your work!

Looking forward to our next tournament in July and we hope to see you there…

Club Championships | Rules & Eligibility Conditions

  1. Only registered financial Canterbury Taipans Swimming Club Members are eligible to compete in these Club Championships.
  2. Competitors can only compete in their assigned age group and events.
  3. Events will be swum as multi-age events with places awarded based on assigned age groups.
  4. Competitors are encouraged to nominate for as many eligible events as possible.
  5. Stroke age champions will be announced for both the Boys and Girls Divisions, with the overall Boys and Girls Club Champions to be decided via a total points system.
  6. The more events you nominate for and swim in – the more points you gain towards being the Club Champion.
  7. In the event of an equal points situation, a ‘swim-off’ will be held where each competitor chooses their favourite event from the evening, then swims this event again, to try and match their previous time. These competitors can swim different strokes and lengths to each other. Closest time to the original time wins the ‘swim off’.
  8. Being a club level event, there will be rule tolerance, meaning it is not necessary for swimmers to be technically correct – but they must start in a fair manner.
  9. Coaches reserve the right to re-start or re-run events, or disqualify individual competitors from events, should it be required.

Club Championships | Events & Age Groups

Club Championships - Events & Age Groups Table

Club Championships | Awards & Records

First, second and third places will be awarded for each competitive age group, swimming stroke and race distance category.

In each age-competitive event, competitors can accrue points towards the Age Champion for each swimming stroke according to their placement.

The overall Boys and Girls Club Champions will be awarded to the swimmers with the highest overall points scored during the evening.

Points are awarded as follows:

5 points for each first place | 3 points for each second place | 1 point for each third place.

Reminder: Any tie-breaks will require you to try and match your previous race time in a swim-off with the closest time winning.

Underdog Film Fest Season Launch | FIRST EVER Logan City Film Festival: Featuring Canterbury Student Films, Peter Dowd & Trio Bellissimo

Underdog Film Fest Season Launch | FIRST EVER Logan City Film Festival: Featuring Canterbury Student Films, Peter Dowd & Trio Bellissimo

We are looking forward to seeing some of our Canterbury student films at the upcoming FIRST EVER Logan City Film Festival as part of the Underdog Film Fest Season Launch.

Not only will some Canterbury student films be screened on the night, but our Film, TV and New Media Teacher Mr Peter Dowd will be speaking, and our highly talented Trio Bellissimo music ensemble will be entertaining guests.

There were at least 120 registrations for this free event - including local and state government representatives, before bookings closed last Friday 9 February.

So it’s sure to be a great night out exceeding original crowd expectations.

The Underdog Film Fest committee created this season launch to host an evening of food and refreshments for locals to learn more about their new festival – the esteemed judges, award categories and discover how they will create opportunities for learning and engagement with Queensland’s film industry.

Underdog Film Fest has been developed in partnership with filmmakers, film and media teachers, tertiary institutions, plus arts and community organisations, to support the growth of the local film industry.

This season launch will proudly showcase a collection of short films from SAE Institute alumni, as well as Canterbury College, Windaroo Valley SHS and Shailer Park SHS students.

Underdog Film Fest is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland, while the Season Launch Event is proudly supported by the Logan City Council.
