The Logan business community’s ‘night of nights’ awards ceremony is just a fortnight away, so the Logan Chamber of Commerce announced their category finalists at a special breakfast on Wednesday morning at the Springwood Lions Club.

With thousands of businesses of all types and sizes operating in the City of Logan, for any organisation to win or be nominated for a business award, is wonderful public recognition and a major reputational boost.

It showcases that the business has achieved a certain level of excellence, and been recognised by industry experts or nominated by a respected commercial body.

This year there are 19 Industry Awards, seven Major Awards, and two Business of the Year Awards.

“It was an exciting morning with the finalists for our upcoming Annual Logan Business Distinction Awards being announced,” a spokesperson from the Logan Chamber of Commerce said.

“Thank you to all our local businesses who took the time to nominate – we understand it’s a huge process filling in your in-depth online application.”

The 2023 Logan Business Distinction Awards will be held on Friday night 11 August at the Logan Entertainment Centre and tickets can still be purchased HERE.

2024 & 2025 New Canterbury Student Enrolments Update | PLEASE ACT NOW

2024 & 2025 New Canterbury Student Enrolments Update | PLEASE ACT NOW

Existing Canterbury families with children not currently enrolled here, plus interested friends of current Canterbury parents, as well as prospective families around the Logan area, have been enquiring about the present status of our school’s vacancies for next year and 2025.

For starters, our much-valued existing families will have priority access to vacancies that arise in other year levels, although this cannot be guaranteed, the closer we get to declaring certain year cohorts totally full.

Now our major official student intake years are Prep, Year 5 and Year 7.

Places are also made available for new enrolment ‘top-ups’ in Year 10.

Right now in late July, there are very few places available in Prep right through to Year 7 for 2024.

In fact, many of these year levels have growing waitlists – especially Year 5.

Having said that, we still advise interested parents and carers to lodge their online enquiry or online application ASAP to join these waitlists.

That’s because we refresh these waitlists weekly, and certain families drop out because they relocate, choose another option, their financial situation changes, or they don’t match our school’s values.

Offers will still be made throughout the remainder of this year as places in classes for 2024 become available.

Offers for Secondary School places in Years 8 to 12 for 2024 are being made now too, where vacancies exist – such as in Year 10 for impressive candidates.

At the other end of the spectrum, there are very few places left in full-time and part-time Canterbury Kindy and Pre-Kindy for 2024.

Again, we urgently advise families to lodge their online enquiries or applications as soon as possible, if you are looking for places in 2024 or 2025, to avoid disappointment.

As for Prep, Year 5 and Year 7 for the year after next in 2025, we once again strongly urge families to lodge their online enquiries or online applications ASAP to get ahead of the queue.

Then interviews will be scheduled by our Admissions Team once applications are lodged.

Finally, can I just say, Canterbury College is always looking for outstanding young men and women to join our school – especially in Years 7-12, for the benefits they can bring to our whole Canterbury Family.

This same warm invitation exists for those prospective families who embrace the benefits of our ‘all-rounder’ World Ready student ethos.

Kind regards

Mr Dan Walker
College Principal

W (Slay) App Caution | An Important eSafety Message For Parents & Carers

W (Slay) App Caution | An Important eSafety Message For Parents & Carers

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to inform you about an app called 'W' in Australia and 'Slay' overseas, that we have recently been made aware of by Canterbury parents and students.

Below is a link to the eSafety Information Sheet that I encourage you all to read.

W App (Slay) | eSafety Commissioner

My concern is the personal information students are asked to provide to sign-up to the app.

Their name, mobile phone number and school is requested of them.

This data is then owned by the app provider.

My other concern is around our students' safety, as anyone can falsify this information and make connections with our young people.

Students have been receiving invites to the app from Canterbury College Corporate Services.

Canterbury College DOES NOT have any association with this app!

Please have a conversation at home about your son/s or daughter/s accessing this app on their mobile devices.

My recommendation is for students not to sign up.

Please feel free to reach out to the College for support, or if you have or need more information.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Rebecca Adamson
Head of Secondary School

About Orange Sky Australia: We provide a platform for every day Australians to connect through a regular laundry and shower service.

The focus is on creating a safe, positive and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or who feel disconnected from the community.

Our volunteers are not social workers or experts on homelessness - they are empathetic listeners and great conversationalists.

Orange Sky Australia is the world’s first free mobile laundry service for people experiencing homelessness – an idea founded in a Brisbane garage by two 20-year-old mates, Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett.

In late 2014, the boys installed a couple of washing machines and dryers in the back of their old van and visited parks around Brisbane to wash and dry clothes for free.

What started as an idea to improve hygiene standards and restore dignity to people doing it tough, has evolved into something much bigger and more powerful.

From sitting down on our orange chairs and chatting with friends, we've learnt that although access to laundry and shower services is important, it's the conversation and regular connection that create the biggest impact in the community.

Each week, all over Australia, thousands of volunteers help to positively connect our friends doing it tough by providing access to free laundry, warm showers and genuine, non-judgmental conversation.

We always partner with service providers, such as food vans or drop-in centres, and make sure that we set up at locations where our friends feel most comfortable.

To date, Orange Sky has provided Australians doing it tough with over 1.9 million kilograms of free laundry, 20,000 showers and 330,000 hours of genuine and non-judgmental conversation across 36 service locations.
