End Of Term 1: Easter Chapel Service

Our End Of Term Easter Chapel Service was a great way to finish off a busy and exciting Term 1.

Our new incoming College Chaplain Father Dan Talbot shared his thoughts about the significance of the palm leaves, hot-cross buns, Easter eggs and the Paschal candle, and how it relates to Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. 🌿🥚🕯

Have a great Easter break everybody and see you in Term 2! 👋

We would like to honour our Canterbury families who have given their time, energy and sometimes their lives, in the defence of our country this ANZAC Day.

Please include with any images a little information about the people you would like honoured – Name, Rank, where they served, when they served, and a short background story about them.

Canterbury College is excited to officially announce our new Head Swimming Coach – Sarah Scott.

Sarah is currently Head Coach at the South Lake Dolphins Swimming Club in Western Australia, and will be joining us to commence Term Two.

Sarah began her swim coaching career in Western Australia, before being invited to join the coaching team at the Nunawading Swimming Club in Melbourne, Victoria.

Upon starting this role in 2015, Sarah also took the reins of the National Development Swimming Squad, before taking the lead of the National Age Swimming Program shortly after.

In conjunction with her primary coaching role, Sarah worked closely with the Nunawading High Performance Squad – alongside 2020 Olympians Brendon Smith, Jessica Hansen and Matthew Temple; 2016 Paralympian Madeleine Scott; and 2022 Australian Team members Bowen Gough and Mikayla Smith.

In 2020, she became Head Coach of Melbourne’s Northcote Swimming Club, followed by Head Coach of the South Lake Dolphins Swimming Club in 2022, in Fremantle (WA).

Sarah holds an Advanced Coaching Accreditation and is in the process of finalising her Performance Coaching Accreditation.

Over the past 10 years, Sarah has shown an amazing ability for nurturing and developing high performance levels on the national swimming stage, with three of her former athletes earning a place on the 2022 Australian Junior Pan Pacific Swim Team.

In addition to her coaching experience, Sarah also holds a Bachelor of Sport Science, majoring in Exercise Physiology from Deakin University.

She also places a high level of focus on the development of healthy performance mindsets, with an emphasis on growth and resilience.

On behalf of the Canterbury Community, we warmly welcome Sarah Scott to our wonderful Waterford campus for Term Two.

Welcome To Canterbury Mr Warwick Adeney! | Queensland Symphony Orchestra's Former 20+ Year Concertmaster 🎻

Welcome To Canterbury Mr Warwick Adeney! | Queensland Symphony Orchestra's Former 20+ Year Concertmaster 🎻

https://youtu.be/Spw7jiHgYxk

After more than two decades as the Queensland Symphony Orchestra's (QSO) Concertmaster, Mr Warwick Adeney has joined Canterbury College as a Studio Music Teacher.

Earlier this year, Warwick led and performed in his final concert - Ode To Joy - at QSO's first Maestro Concert of the 2023 Season.

Born into a large family of violinists, he trained alongside three of his siblings at the Queensland Conservatorium, where he learnt under Dr Anthony Doheny.

Mr Adeney has been playing in orchestras since 1984, shortly after graduating as a Gold Medal graduate.

After graduation, Warwick joined the Queensland Theatre Orchestra under Georg Tintner and gained his prestigious Concertmaster status in 1989.

Warwick is married to Michele, a fellow musician, and is blessed with nine children, all of whom learn a variety of instruments.

Please enjoy our video showing Warwick in action, and learn about what he looks forward to contributing to Canterbury's Music Program.

To read more about Warwick and his time at QSO please visit this QSO weblink HERE.

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra has also released this tribute video of Warwick playing The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams - which captures the essence of what he has brought to the QSO over his many years with the company.

2023 Queensland Symphony Orchestra: Young Instrumentalist Prize | Our Two Canterbury Finalists - Dylan You & Haydn Li

https://youtu.be/bbxES-23YDg

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra's (QSO) Young Instrumentalist Prize is an annual competition open to ALL Queensland Secondary School students who play orchestral instruments at an advanced level.

Up to seven finalists are selected by an esteemed panel of judges, who will then be invited to perform at the Finalists' Recital.

There they will perform in front of selected QSO musicians and staff, as well as family, friends and members of the general public.

All finalists will receive cash prizes and mentoring opportunities, and the overall winner will have the opportunity to work with QSO for the 2023 Season.

We are extremely proud to have two students among the seven finalists selected to perform at the Finalists' Recital - Dylan You (Year 12 - Goldsworthy House) and Haydn Li (Year 10 - Ramsey House).

Dylan will be playing the Clarinet and is performing the Clarinet Concerto No.2 Op.74, Mvt. 1 by Carl Maria von Weber.

Haydn will be playing the Viola and is performing the Viola Concerto in C Minor Op.25, Mvt. 3 by York Bowen.

Both boys performed on-stage at last year's major Canterbury 35th Anniversary Concert at QPAC's Concert Hall, while Haydn is also a proud member of our brilliant Trio Bellissimo.

The big Finalists' Recital is at 6.30pm, Saturday 1 April 2023 at the ABC Studios located over at Southbank, South Brisbane.

So get your tickets and come support our terrifically talented twosome!

And please enjoy our quick student catch-up with Dylan and Haydn.
