Year 5 RAVE Term 4: Christmas Compared
Year 5 RAVE Term 4: Christmas Compared
For RAVE: Religion And Values Education this term, Year 5 have been studying a unit called Christmas Compared.
Students have been researching how other countries around the world celebrate Christmas.
We have looked at their Christmas traditions, foods and activities, and then compared these with our Australian yule-tide traditions.
For the past few Fridays, the three classes have joined together to create traditional Christmas activities from the places we have studied, including: Mexican Pinatas, German Gingerbread Houses, and Filipino Parols (stained glass stars).
It has certainly been a lot of fun!

The Canterbury Dark Side Astronomy Club RETURNS Next Year!
At Canterbury's Dark Side Astronomy Club, we have plenty of fun while learning a bit about the universe along the way.
The club will be open to ALL students from Year 5 to Year 12.
We will be meeting every Monday after school in the Secondary Library.
These meetings will involve entertaining videos, news and astronomy topics like: supernovas, black holes, relativity, Schrodinger's Cat, asteroid impacts and more.
Then a follow-up activity which could be Internet research, model-making, quiz games with chocolate prizes, Jedi Knight training or light sabre battles!
Each year there will also be star gazing evenings with telescopes on the Oval, a Star Wars movie marathon, a visit to the Brisbane Planetarium as well as family nights.

However, due to for-and-against points, we finished 3rd and did not qualify for the Grand Final.
A great effort for the team at the first TAS e-Sports event, so well done boys!

2021 City Of Logan Sports Awards: Results
2021 City Of Logan Sports Awards: Results
Congratulations to all the very worthy winners at Saturday night's City Of Logan Sports Awards.
Unfortunately we didn't take out our two categories, but looking forward to a bigger and better 2022!
: Our Aquatic & Tennis Centre Manager Mr James Rapkins and Tennis Coach Drew Parker with their nomination certificate.
Our two nominations were for:
YOUNG ATHLETE WITH A DISABILITY - Rhylee Jackson (Year 9).
Rhylee Jackson is an excellent tennis player who has been profoundly deaf his whole life.
While competing very well in mainstream competition, Rhylee has excelled in the past 12 months at a National level in the Deaf & Hard Of Hearing (DHOH) competitions.
Thanks to Matt Bourne and Drew Parker for doing such a great job with squads and individual lessons, and we look forward to supporting Rhylee into the future.
SPORTS EVENT OF THE YEAR - Canterbury Taipans Inaugural Junior Girls Tennis Championships 2021.
In July 2021, the Canterbury Taipans hosted the first ever ‘ALL GIRL’ National Point Junior Event.
It was ground-breaking, inspiring and brilliantly delivered thanks to the teams in marketing, facilities and tennis.
The event drew some amazing feedback and has sparked the plans for a ‘Girls Only’ circuit adopted by Tennis Queensland, to increase the participation of women in sport and particularly, to rescue the dropout rate in female teenage tennis players.

Social Justice BBQ Lunch Fundraiser For Afghanistan & Kosovo
THIS Friday 12 November during second break lunch, we will be having a BBQ for the people of Afghanistan and Kosovo.
The current political and socio-economic problems in both Afghanistan and Kosovo are causing untold human rights issues.
Homelessness, hunger and persecution are becoming the daily lives of many who live in these countries.
So please come along and support these communities by buying your lunch from the stall outside the Secondary Library.
All proceeds will go to organisations supporting the people of Afghanistan and Kosovo.
Thank you!
