Certificate III In Aviation At Canterbury

Congratulations to Amarjot Saini, Aiden Hartl, Ishaninder Khatra and Cameron Macready for completing their Certificate III in Aviation.

Students who completed their Certificate III in Aviation this year were given the opportunity to study for their Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) in an all-day incursion at the College.

Working with their instructor from the Australian Unmanned Systems Academy, students will continue to study and prepare for their REPL exam in 2023.

We look forward to hearing about how they go next year!

Canterbury College Taipans Teams Score BIG At TAS eSports Grand Finals

Canterbury College Taipans Teams Score BIG At TAS eSports Grand Finals

After a full year of competing in eSports, The Associated Schools Grand Finals for Rocket League and League of Legends were held on Saturday 12 November 2022. 🎮👾⚡⚔🚙💻

Our Canterbury Rocket League Team began the day playing against John Paul College and quickly secured a 3-1 victory, moving them onto the finals and facing last year's reigning champions St Columban's College.

The final was nail-bitingly tense, but Canterbury worked together as a united team, keeping their defences strong, and their opponents stayed scoreless after 35 minutes of play in a best-of-five match.

Ultimately, our Rocket League Team was successful in securing the TAS Championship Trophy! 🏆

Our Canterbury League of Legends Team were against more challenging opposition, playing out to 35 minutes in both rounds against Ormiston College and St Paul's School.

Still, they brilliantly built up an astounding 22 eliminations against their opponent in the finals.

Using a more prevailing and efficient playing style, Canterbury Secondary students Sam, Roy, Lucas, Peter and Stephen overcame their assertive rival team, and eventually took home the TAS Championship Trophy with a clean sweep. 🏆

Well done to all our competitors! 🎉🎊

2022 Canterbury Christmas Appeal Fundraiser | Photos Now Available

Through thunderstorms aplenty, students flocked to the CEC to get festive at our 2022 Canterbury Christmas Appeal Fundraiser. ☔⚡⛄🎄

We heard lively (if not silky smooth) karaoke singers' joyous and spirited tones, as they took to the stage for some audience entertainment. 🎤😂🙌💃🎼

Guests enjoyed a BBQ banquet with snacks, including soft drinks and buttery popcorn - all in time for the cheerful Christmas movie Elf. 🍔🍟🌭🍕🍿🍨🍫

Thank you so much to everyone who participated by contributing a gold coin donation, or by purchasing food and drinks on the night. 🙏

These cash donations will go towards the Australian charity Orange Sky Australia, which provides a free laundry service, showers and conversations to those in need. 💰🚿🛁👚👕👖❤

We also saw many contributions placed under our House Christmas trees, and these highly essential items are being turned into care packs and donated to Rosies - Friends On The Street.

This very worthy charity aims to connect our community, providing love, support and friendship to those who might be doing it tough this Christmas period. ❤🎁💌🎒🍫🎄

--------------------

Dear Canterbury Community,

Our 2023 Student Leadership Group would like to invite all students in Years 5-11 and their families, to our Canterbury Christmas Appeal Fundraiser.

Come and celebrate the end of the school year, and get into the Christmas spirit with us, as we enjoy some Christmas Carols Karaoke, a Christmas Movie, and donating resources to the less fortunate members of our wider Logan community.

This year, we are supporting two separate local charities, who we’ve worked with already throughout 2022.

Both Rosies: Friends On The Street and Orange Sky Australia support marginalised people in our community.

Rosies: Friends On The Street is a charity organisation which aims to offer friendship and unconditional acceptance to those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or are experiencing social isolation.

Canterbury is hosting this fun family night to encourage our school community to build their awareness around the issue of homelessness.

And more importantly, to gather donated items (described in the table below), which Rosies can distribute directly to those in need as care packs.

Each College House will be tasked with bringing different items to donate to the Rosies Appeal.

These will be placed under the relevant Christmas Tree inside the Canterbury Events Centre (CEC).

The items required from each House are:

 House  Item
Becket  Christmas gifts: playing cards, puzzles, board games, small card games e.g. Uno etc.
Cranmer  Small backpacks, drink bottles, toothbrush containers etc.
Goldsworthy  Personal hygiene items: body wash, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, sanitiser etc.
Kime  Personal hygiene items: body wash, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, sanitiser etc.
Temple  Christmas socks, boxers, beanies, undergarments etc.
Ramsey  Non-perishable Christmas treats: Christmas cakes, sweets, puddings, biscuits, snacks etc.
(NB: Avoid chocolate as it melts).

Orange Sky Australia provides a positive and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or feel disconnected from the community.

They provide regular laundry and shower services for homeless people.

The Canterbury Community has supported this organisation throughout the year, and funds raised at this event - via the gold coin entry donations, and food and drink sales, will further support this worthy cause.

This is sure to be a wonderful community event, where students of all ages and their families, can get together in the Christmas spirit of giving and community.

Parents & Carers – If you have any questions about this event, please get in touch with your child’s Head of House.

Students – Please approach any of our College Student Leaders who can support you with more information.

Kind regards

Mr Tory Mills

Acting Head of Secondary School
Canterbury College
