Canterbury Athletes @ Queensland School Sport Volleyball Championships | Weekend Results

Year 12’s Jeremy Kriletich, Year 10’s Juliana Tamala and Year 9’s Amir Kakayee competed over the weekend at the Queensland School Sport Volleyball Championships at Nathan's Nissan Arena.

Amir represented in the U15 Boys playing as Libero.

His team played a strong competition finishing in 4th place.

At the Closing Ceremony, Amir was selected to represent Queensland in the U15 team as a shadow player.

Well done on your efforts Amir!

Juliana represented in the U15 Girls finishing in 3rd place.

Juliana played out of position for the whole competition.

She normally plays setter - however, she did what the team needed and competed as an opposite.

With her depth of talent and resilience, learning the new position during the heat of competition, Juliana was announced as a shadow player for the U15 Queensland team.

Awesome stuff Juliana!

Finally, Jeremy represented in the U19 Boys.

His team were trailing 0-2 in the Bronze Medal Match, but dug deep and came back to reverse sweep and win 3-2!

Jeremy himself played a terrific tournament and was consistently dominant on the net.

Jeremy was announced at the Closing Ceremony as a member of the U19 Queensland Merit Team.

Congratulations to our three Canterbury volleyballers!

Mr Andrew Porter

Teacher

Today's Hydrogen Grand Prix Australian Championships Results

Today's Hydrogen Grand Prix Australian Championships Results

Our Canterbury Hydrogen Grand Prix Secondary Team came third out of 20 crews competing up in the Gladstone Entertainment & Convention Centre today!

The five students completed 499 laps over four hours, with their very own hydrogen-powered remote-controlled car, to grab the bronze trophy.

Congratulations to our very own 'Fast & Furious' racers…

NEWS STORY: First Ever Australian H2GP Held Today

Gladstone in regional Queensland hosted Australia’s first ever Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP), a school-based science and engineering program, that seeks to nurture the talent of the world’s future renewable energy leaders.

The four-hour race held at the Gladstone Entertainment & Convention Centre on Friday 21 April from 10:30am, was supported by several industry and government partners.

The event itself, run by Horizon Educational, is the culmination of a six-month long STEM education program, in which students worked with teammates and industry mentors to design, engineer and construct their very own hydrogen-powered remote-controlled cars.

Today’s H2GP saw 20 teams from across Australia’s East Coast – including 12 from Central Queensland – put their renewable energy engineering skills to the test, racing their self-built 1:10-scale hydrogen-powered cars over the four-hour ‘endurance race’.

The race winner is advancing to the Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix World Final, to be held in September.

Secondary School Gardening Club | Tuesday Lunchtimes @ College Plant Nursery (Near Canterbury Functions Centre)

Secondary School Gardening Club | Tuesday Lunchtimes @ College Plant Nursery (Near Canterbury Functions Centre)

Dear ALL Secondary Students,

We have a Canterbury Gardening Club available for Secondary Students.

Each In-Term Tuesday Lunchtime you can visit the school's Plant Nursery (NOT the campus kitchen garden), to learn more about plants and how they grow.

It's all about utilising propagation and how you can profit from plants!

We have a great variety of plants for you to work with.

You can come once to check us out, or every week - it's entirely up to you.

If you are keen, you may even get the okay to visit and work in our plant nursery without supervision.

So come and have a look - it may change your life and turn your thumbs green!

The Canterbury Plant Nursery is sort of 'tucked away' below the Canterbury Functions Centre, behind T Block's T5 and T4 rooms where the wire fencing is.

Yours in plants, environmentalism, fun and Canterbury,

Mr Paul Penny
