Year 7 Timetable Release | By 12:00pm Midday THIS Monday 22 January

Year 7 Timetable Release | By 12:00pm Midday THIS Monday 22 January

Dear Parents and Carers,

I trust you enjoyed a wonderful festive season, filled with joy and meaningful moments spent with family and friends.

To those among you who faced challenges during the severe storms over Christmas, my heartfelt wishes go out to you - especially as you navigate through the cleanup and repair process.

We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our Year 7 students THIS Monday for their final Orientation Day, marking a significant step as they officially join the Canterbury College Senior School.

I understand that both you and your son or daughter may be looking forward to, and perhaps feeling a bit nervous, about this milestone.

Rest assured, they will return home invigorated, eager to share stories about their initial experiences in our high school.

Earlier this week, timetables and class lists were made available here through MyCC.

Crafting these schedules is an intricate process, requiring careful consideration of logistical, educational, and organisational factors.

These factors encompass resource allocation, the availability of subject specialists, and the delicate balance of class size and composition, among others.

For Years 8-12, this process is now complete.

However, Year 7 classes demand additional time and attention to ensure that the composition - taking into account factors such as gender, skill sets, new families, and existing Canterbury families - creates an optimal environment for effective learning.

Our new enrolments have just been finalised and we will conclude the class lists and timetables by 12:00pm midday THIS Monday 22 January.

If you have already had the chance to view your child’s timetable, I recommend reviewing it on Monday afternoon for any potential updates.

Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Senior School Administration - T: 07 3299 0843 | E:

Wishing you a smooth transition into the new school year and into high school.

Kind regards

Mrs Rebecca Adamson
Head of Senior School

Our Year 12 'Class Of 2023' | Today’s ATAR Results Summary

Our Year 12 'Class Of 2023' | Today’s ATAR Results Summary

Dear Canterbury Community,

Today we received our subject results from the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) and our ATAR results from the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).

So I am pleased to share with you some of the highlights and summaries of our Year 12 student cohort’s academic achievements in 2023.

This year, we have three remarkable students who achieved an ATAR over 99.00.

This is the equivalent of an OP1 in the previous system.

Congratulations to Caleb Garai who received a 99.60 ATAR and is our Dux of the College for this year.

Fellow graduates Chloe Ahern received a 99.50 to be awarded our Proximae Accessit to the Dux, while Duli Silva received a 99.30.

Six Canterbury students will be awarded with Premier’s Commendations for their superb results of six As.

Overall, 33% of our Year 12s achieved an ATAR of 90.00 or above.

This is our third best result in the College’s history, with a record-high ATAR/OP eligibility of 84%, which would be one of the highest levels in the state which averaged 51%.

Again, this showcases our high academic credentials and culture, as part of Canterbury’s four-dimensional education in Academics, Sport, The Arts and Service & Leadership.

22% of our students achieved an ATAR of 95.00 or above, representing the second-best result in the College’s history.

57% of our graduates achieved an ATAR of 80.00 or above, also the second-best result in the College’s history.

In addition, this Year 12 cohort earned 147 VET qualifications between them, a strong indicator of the ‘World Ready’ skills and training they have already attained across the past two years.

There were 98 results of 90 or above in individual subject results, which is truly worthy of acclamation.

24 of our students achieved only As and Bs.

I am proud of the results achieved by all our students across the full ATAR range, based on effort and diligence in their various subjects, and not just natural academic talent.

To the Year 12 teaching and support staff, as well as everyone who taught the Class of 2023 over the years, thank you and well done.

More importantly than anything else, these results will open doors for our students to take the next step in their lives with confidence and optimism.

Many of our Year 12s have actually already received offers for their first or second course preferences, and it’s genuinely rewarding to have guided them along their life destination.

Mr Dan Walker
College Principal

Please Note: As is the case for every Queensland school, these results only include those students who have provided permission for the school to access this information.

We do enjoy high levels of permission from our students, while some schools seem to experience lower rates of permission granted by their Year 12s.

New Head Of Junior School Announcement | Canterbury College Welcomes Karen Roman

New Head Of Junior School Announcement | Canterbury College Welcomes Karen Roman

Dear Canterbury Community,

I am pleased to introduce our new Head of Junior School, Karen Roman to our community of parents, carers, students and staff.

When appointing a new Head of Junior School, our most important consideration was to find somebody with a clarity of purpose and vision, based on a depth of experience in similar roles in an independent school.

In Karen, we have most definitely found a person able to take our Junior School to the next level.

Karen has most recently served as the Manager of Student Services at Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ), the peak body which represents and coordinates the efforts of the independent school sector across the state.

In this role, Karen has worked with hundreds of schools in the areas of learning support and inclusion, as well as curriculum planning, and has conducted dozens of reviews for school Principals into all areas of their operation.

Prior to this role, Karen was Head of Junior School at AB Paterson College on the Gold Coast, where she oversaw the rise of that school to Number One by many academic indicators.

She achieved this through a wise use of talent and enthusiasm with staff, and a clear vision for how to maximise the achievement of every single student.

I feel genuinely lucky to have attracted somebody of Karen’s stature in the independent schools sector to Canterbury.

Importantly, I know that Karen is aligned with our current direction and will also bring new insight to our existing programs and processes in student wellbeing, behaviour and academic achievement.

She has already met some members of the Junior School leadership team, and has worked with Canterbury periodically over the years, on various projects and staff professional development.

Karen will be starting with us at the beginning of the new academic year.

I know her warmth and authenticity will be evident for the whole community to see upon her arrival at Canterbury in January.

Our Junior School Leadership Team, with Karen now at the helm, remains very stable:

Alisha Richardson – Assistant Head of Junior School (Learning)

Brittany Sinclair – Assistant Head of Junior School (Wellbeing)

Andrew Powell – Assistant Head of Junior School (Wellbeing)

Christina Jasem – Head of Literacy Development

Natalie Birt – Head of Learning Support

Ben Maxfield – Head of Sport and Activities (Junior School)

In 2024, I know Karen will be keen to meet as many families and staff as possible.

As is always the case, our community will no doubt generously welcome Karen, as a new senior leader to our College.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Regards

Mr Dan Walker
College Principal
