Year 7 Food & Hospitality Assessment: Healthy Breakfasts
Our Year 7 Food and Hospitality students have successfully completed their assessment on making Healthy Breakfasts.
Each student thoughtfully designed, planned and created their own nutritious breakfast, incorporating foods from three different food groups, in accordance with the Australian Healthy Eating Guidelines.
All the fathers and male carers out there might just be getting a big healthy breakfast in bed this Sunday for Father’s Day!
The Resilience Project: Brisbane Broncos Visit Canterbury College!
The Resilience Project: Brisbane Broncos Visit Canterbury College!
Today, our Junior School Years 5-6 students were treated to a special visit from two Brisbane Broncos sporting stars, as part of our whole College's wellbeing program: The Resilience Project.
Longtime Broncos second-rower and former skipper Alex Glenn (now retired), and current NRL Women’s Broncos captain and superstar Ali Brigginshaw, hosted an interactive workshop with our students focused on resilience and wellbeing.
Through personal life, sport and team stories and practical strategies, they provided valuable insights aimed at fostering mental resilience among our young students.
The workshop centred around the principles of GEM: Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness, plus Emotional Literacy, equipping students with essential tools to enhance their emotional intelligence and promote positive mental health.
By sharing their own experiences and discussing the importance of these principles, Alex and Ali encouraged our students to cultivate a resilient mindset too.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Alex Glenn, Ali Brigginshaw and the Brisbane Broncos for their contribution to our students' own wellbeing journey – and for all the autographs at the end!

Term 3 Junior School Loud Lunch Concert @ The Green | Recap & Photos
On Monday, The Green recreational space in our Junior School campus was buzzing with excitement, as our Senior School Rock Band ‘Breaking News’ delivered a rocking lunchtime concert.
It was a great opportunity for them to showcase their musical talents, and practice performing in front of a live audience, with some interschool Rock Band competitions coming up later this year.
It was also a chance for the Senior School and Junior School to maintain their strong connections with an afternoon of enjoyable rock tunes, inspiring our younger musical students to follow in their steps.

2024 Junior School Annual Book Week Parade | Event Wrap, Photo Gallery & Highlights Video
This year's theme: ‘Reading Is Magic’ sparked a huge outpouring of creativity as our ELC to Year 6 students transformed into their favourite book characters.
From well-known superheroes, to Harry Potters, Frozen Elsa princesses, and Alices in Wonderland, the Canterbury Events Centre was filled with joy and literary enthusiasm.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents and carers who helped make this major event a vibrant success, with their hard work and patience behind the scenes making these costumes with their children.
Our inhouse favourite Book Week student costume was the young boy who actually dressed up as our very own Mr Paul Penny, and proudly carried around the literary masterpiece ‘Mr Penny’s Potato Patch’ written by Canterbury’s own Head of Libraries & Information Services Mrs Anita Pendreigh (please see our photo gallery).
All the great photos from the 2024 Junior School Annual Book Week Parade can be found on our Facebook Page HERE.
Year 11 Senior Literature Class | With Assistant Head of English Faculty Billie Loveday
Year 11 Senior Literature Class | With Assistant Head of English Faculty Billie Loveday
https://youtu.be/0ZvuonFwYe8
Our Year 11 Senior Literature students are currently studying Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's collection of short stories in her very popular book: The Thing Around Your Neck.
The first story titled 'Cell One', delves into the life of Nnamabia, a young Nigerian man imprisoned for stealing and pawning his mother’s jewellery.
Through his story, the narrative vividly portrays the challenges of navigating a corrupt political system and the erosion of authority in Nigeria.
Studying literature provides a great foundation for life beyond school.
It gives students the essential skills to critique and analyse texts adeptly, fostering confidence in discussing literary works.
Moreover, it cultivates creative and critical thinking skills, preparing students for the complexities of higher education and beyond.
Our Assistant Head of English Faculty and Senior School English Teacher Mrs Billie Loveday explains more fully in our video…

Years 11-12 Hospitality RSA: Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate III Course | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery
Today our Certificate III in Hospitality students, along with other Years 11 and 12 students, participated in the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Course.
An RSA qualification is a mandatory requirement (by law) for any person wanting to work in a hospitality establishment that serves or sells alcohol.
Completing this all-day course opens up job opportunities for our students to earn money and gain valuable experience in the hospitality, tourism and recreational industries.
Throughout the day, students learn about the negative effects of alcohol and drugs, how to identify signs of intoxication, and the legal obligations and consequences for all stakeholders in the sale and supply of alcohol chain.
They also gain knowledge around refusal of service, and the practical skills of how to safely and effectively execute this potentially difficult task.
Students also wore special RSA goggles that gave them an intoxicated person’s view of the world around them as shown in the photos.
