Our Year 7 BEE: Business, Economics and Entrepreneurship class has been exploring the essential skills needed to become a successful modern-day entrepreneur.
So who better to provide ‘world ready’ industry advice than Mr Peter Hull, Founder and CEO of the hugely successful international fitness franchise Fitstop?
Canterbury students Zavier Morrow and Declan Ryan recently enjoyed the amazing opportunity to sit down with him and discuss all things business at his East Brisbane HQ.
The proud Queenslander was originally on track to become a pro motocross rider, until he suffered two serious accidents, that shifted his focus toward personal training.
In 2013 Mr Hull launched Fitstop, starting with a small client base in his parents' garage, aiming to create a supportive, community-driven fitness experience centred around functional strength and conditioning.
By 2014-16, Fitstop secured its first lease for a proper brick-and-mortar gym.
In 2017, Fitstop began franchising and has quickly expanded to over 150 locations with more than 30,000 members.
The brand also opened locations internationally, including into New Zealand, Singapore and the United States.
During 2020’s global COVID-19 pandemic, Fitstop faced significant business challenges due to ongoing lockdowns and gym closures.
However, the company quickly adapted by implementing online workout programs to keep its community engaged and connected.
Guided by its motto: ‘Stop at Nothing’, Fitstop embodies continuous growth, resilience and commitment to positive community impacts.
Peter Hull’s journey from a modest start-up to leading one of Australia’s fastest-growing fitness franchises, highlights the importance of perseverance, innovation and community-focussed growth.
Enjoy viewing what Mr Peter Hull shares with our excited Canterbury students Zavier and Declan…

Rick Roser Prep Indigenous Perspectives Incursion | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery
Today, our Prep classes participated in a popular Aboriginal culture, art and storytelling incursion.
Throughout this term and year, students have been exploring many important aspects around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
They have been discovering and reflecting upon how these First Nations traditions, people, family, communications, stories and events are similar or different to their own families and cultures.
This incursion offered our Preppies the chance to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories – both from the past, and as they are expressed today through art, digital media, stories, drama and dance.
Our presenter Mr Rick Roser engaged the classes in various activities such as boomerang throwing, fire-making demonstrations, natural body and face painting, and creating emu feather hair decorations, that supported their learning and emphasised the importance of Aboriginal culture.

On Monday morning, our Year 8 Mandarin students took part in a cultural incursion where they learned how to make dumplings.
This term, the students have been studying a unit on Leisure Time, acquiring the language skills necessary to discuss their own leisure activities while learning about the activities that Chinese people enjoy in their spare time.
In China, dumpling making is a cherished social activity symbolising unity and prosperity, often bringing families together during special occasions and in their free time.
This incursion provided students with the hands-on experience of making their own dumplings, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.

Years 8 & 9 Class Assessments: The Science & Culture Of Cooking!
Years 8 & 9 Class Assessments: The Science & Culture Of Cooking!
For Year 9, this term's theme focused on cooking as a chemical process.
Students explored how various chemical reactions affect different types of starch, sugar, proteins and lipids.
They applied their knowledge in an assessment project where they showcased their baking skills by creating choux pastry filled with chocolate mousse.
Additionally, they made caramel and also used sugar work to decorate their pastry towers.
----------
The Year 9s also learnt about ‘denaturing’ proteins by making meringue nests, which are created from sugar and egg whites.
Meringues are made by whipping egg whites to incorporate air, which causes the proteins to ‘denature’ and form a stable foam, then adding sugar to both sweeten and stabilise the mixture.
----------
The Year 8 topic focused on the culture of food.
We explored global cuisines, learning to prepare dishes like spaghetti carbonara, Vietnamese spring rolls and beef enchiladas, among others.
Students were then tasked with researching a specific culture, planning a meal based on their chosen culture, and incorporating an element from a different culture into their dish.
Please find attached photos of our Year 8 students presenting their final meal creations.
