Child Care For Essential Workers

Child Care For Essential Workers

Dear Parents & Carers,

I am pleased to announce that Camp Australia will be providing care for Canterbury children of essential workers during the Queensland Government’s 3-day snap lockdown.

Please be aware that ALL previous bookings made for Monday and Tuesday have been cancelled.

To access this service for these days, families will need to go back into the Parent Portal which can be accessed by clicking here and then re-register for these days.

In line with the announcement and following health advice, parents must rebook care as we cannot accept on-the-day bookings.

It's very important that if you have not previously registered for Camp Australia, you will need to do so before being permitted to use their service.

Registration is FREE and can be done by clicking here.

Furthermore, we want to reassure you that we are taking a careful and considered approach to our service delivery to ensure the safety of your children and our staff.

We have a detailed COVID Safe Plan that our staff are well versed in, to ensure the safety of our services and to manage the risk of COVID-19.

Please be assured we are in close contact with the Government to ensure we are continually briefed with any changes required.

Our number one priority is to ensure we provide a safe environment for all children, families and staff.

If you have any further questions, please email me at

Yours faithfully

Mr Bill Garland
Head Of Junior School
Canterbury College

Logan & Brisbane Areas COVID Lockdown - Canterbury College 5PM SAT Update

1. We are NOW in official lockdown UNTIL 4:00pm THIS Tuesday 3 August (hopefully) as authorities look to halt an expanding Delta outbreak in Brisbane's western suburbs.

2. The Canterbury College campus is effectively CLOSED until this lockdown ends.

3. Online Learning Lessons will commence from Period 3 Monday for ALL year levels.

4. Canterbury College will have skeleton staff in the ELC and Camp Australia OSHC for children of essential workers ONLY until the lockdown is lifted.

This afternoon we received confirmation that Camp Australia will be operational for Monday and Tuesday.

However, they are going to cancel all current (pre-existing) bookings and those parents working in essential services will need to book in, so please look out for any Camp Australia communications this weekend.

5. Finally, Sunday's Canterbury Customs House Music Concert has had to be cancelled:

Dear Ticket Holders: Please note that due to the current lockdown, Sunday afternoon’s concert at Customs House in Brisbane City will NOT be taking place. Information regarding your tickets will be communicated in due course.

ABC News Website Summary:

From now, Loganites & Brisbanites can only leave home for the following reasons:

  • For essential groceries & medications shopping – but only within 10km of your home.
  • For essential work or child care – but child care is only for essential workers or vulnerable families.
  • For exercising alone or with only one other person not from your household – but only within 10km of your home.
  • For healthcare, to care for somebody who needs assistance, to get your COVID vaccination or to get a COVID test.

There will be no community sport, no professional sport, nothing for the next three days.

The QLD Government hopes that anyone who is out and about right now concludes whatever they are doing and goes home.

If you're not in Brisbane or Logan, but you live in Brisbane or Logan - you can go home, but must lock down once you get home.

Stay safe everybody!

2021 QLD O’Donnell Youth Lecture With Dr Nathan Boase – Plastic Fantastic! Or Not?

2021 QLD O’Donnell Youth Lecture With Dr Nathan Boase – Plastic Fantastic! Or Not?

Tuesday 3 August 2021 Update:

Dear All,

For the second year now, COVID has forced the cancellation of this guest lecture.

There may be a small chance of hosting it during the start of Term 4, but a number of things need to go our way for that to occur.

Our chemistry classes are being informed this week.

Stay safe everybody!

Every year, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) provides access to leading chemical scientists via their Secondary School Chemistry Youth Lecture Series.

These lectures cover a diverse range of engaging topics with the aim of inspiring students into a future career in Chemistry.

So we are excited to host Dr Nathan Boase to speak with us on a lecture entitled: Plastic Fantastic! Or Not So Fantastic?

Plastics are everywhere in the news and on social media at the moment, with global society trying to wage the 'War On Waste’.

But what exactly are plastics?

What are they made up of?

Why were they so popular in the late 20th century?

This lecture will focus on the molecules that make up plastics - called polymers, and will use demonstrations and examples to answer key questions:

- How does the chemical structure of polymers create the unique properties that have been favoured for so long?

- Why can polymers create problems for waste management?

- What else can polymers be used for other than straws and sandwich wrappers?

We will also look to the future of polymers and plastics and the role they will play far into the 21st century.

More information on the National Youth Lecture Series can be found by clicking on this weblink here.
