2024 Term 3 Duke of Edinburgh Awards & Silver Colours Awards Recipients
During today’s Assembly, Years 4-12 students and staff, along with parents and carers, gathered to acknowledge some of our Junior and Senior School students, for their outstanding academic achievements in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Silver Colours Awards categories.
Duke Of Edinburgh Awards
To receive a Bronze Award in the international Duke of Edinburgh program, students must dedicate significant time and effort to achieve their community goals.
Bronze awardees participate in an ‘overnight adventurous journey’, weekly service activities, physical recreation, and work towards improving a chosen skill.
Congratulations to our two Year 12 students who have worked so diligently to earn this award:

2024 QLD Secondary Schools Cup: Tennis State Finals Team Championships | Canterbury Wins Bronze Medal Representing South Coast Region
2024 QLD Secondary Schools Cup: Tennis State Finals Team Championships | Canterbury Wins Bronze Medal Representing South Coast Region
Our girls did us proud last week up in Rockhampton – home of Australian tennis icon ‘Rocket’ Rod Laver, in the 2024 QSSTT State Finals, where we finished third overall.
Representing our South Coast Region, we narrowly missed out on gold and silver by just a few games in a closely contested semi-final against Kelvin Grove SHS, who were representing the Metro North Region.
On the first day’s Pool A play-offs, we beat Somerville House, Shalom College and Sunshine Coast Grammar School, dropping just five games across 18 matches – a dominating performance.
Valenova was undefeated during the whole competition as the No.1 seed, winning all her singles and doubles matches.
Our other team members Katie, Isabella, Maddison and Mckynlee all played superbly throughout the two days, in very hot and gruelling Central Queensland conditions.
One highlight was meeting Mr Rob Barty – the father of Aussie tennis superstar Ash Barty, who is a big supporter of this event.
Overall, I think we performed really well, placing as the third best school for girls tennis throughout all of Queensland.
Especially when Queensland is regarded as a tennis ‘power state’.
We will strive to get stronger, faster and more accurate in the coming years.
Special thanks to Dan Bolger, Brock Franklin and Perran Sonnex for their dedication and support as Assistant Team Managers for the trip.
We have our Primary Schools Tennis Cup coming up this Term 4 on Friday 25 October on the Gold Coast and we have our teams ready to compete.

Year 11 Etiquette Lessons | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery
Today, our Year 11 students experienced a last day of Term 3 special Wellbeing class, focused on fine dining manners and social etiquette.
Held in a restaurant setting on campus, our Hospitality students – guided by their teachers, served their peers while creating a fine-dining experience.
Throughout the three course meal, Mrs Lainey Loneragan – Managing Director of Etiquette & Manners Australia, led the students through each stage of formal dining etiquette.
They learned how to use cutlery correctly, identify the right drinking glass, choose the correct bread roll, and navigate a fine-dining environment with confidence.
Beyond the meal, students also explored the etiquette of introductions, phone and communication manners, proper hygiene, handshakes, and dressing for different occasions.
This valuable knowledge will serve them well as they enter the wider world outside Canterbury.

College Chaplain Father Dan Talbot delivered his homily that focused on finding the joy, especially in the disappointing moments of life…
“Joy was the message for our End Of Term Chapel Service.
But more about finding the Joy, especially during the disappointing moments of life.
We were encouraged by our bible reading to understand that Joy comes from God, and Joy can be found in even the most painful moments of life.
It will always come down to perspectives, and how we look at those moments.
There will be some times when we need the help of others to see that different perspective, but it will always be there.
Joy is always an option; will you use it?”
Fr Dan Talbot

Our official The Sudsy Challenge webpage for any donations is HERE.
And today our School Assembly special guest is 2016 Young Australian of the Year and 2020 Order of Australia Medallist Mr Nicholas Marchesi – the entrepreneur, innovator and storyteller who co-founded Orange Sky Australia in 2014 alongside his best mate Mr Lucas Patchett.

During Tuesday’s lunch break, Kime House hosted a Junior School BBQ Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser on The Green to support Orange Sky Australia.
And today (Wednesday) officially kicks off Orange Sky’s annual The Sudsy Challenge, with Canterbury students and staff trading uniforms for bright orange Sudsy clothes.
For the next three days, participants will keep their orange gear on to spark conversations, raise awareness and fundraise for those facing the hardships of homelessness.
Named after the first laundry van ‘Sudsy’ – built by Orange Sky co-founders Nic and Lucas right here in Brisbane – this three-day challenge mirrors the three days and three sets of washing machines and dryers it took to get Sudsy up and running.
This Thursday afternoon, all Prep to Year 12 students will come together for a special End Of Term Chapel Service and a Kime House Student-Led Assembly.
This Assembly will feature Orange Sky Co-Founder and 2016 Young Australian of the Year Nic Marchesi OAM, who will inspire us with ‘all things’ The Sudsy Challenge.
