URGENT REMINDER: Term 4 Junior TAS Sport – Tennis | AFL | Touch Football – SIGN-UPS CLOSE 9AM MONDAY!

Dear Parents and Carers,

In Term 4, Canterbury students from Years 3 – 6 can participate in Tennis, AFL and Touch Football.

The Junior TAS Competition for Term 4 will be a combination of week-to-week fixtures (Tennis) and carnival formats (Touch Football and AFL).

Nominations for ALL three sports MUST be submitted by 9:00am THIS Monday 12 September 2022.

Listed below are the training times and game days for these Term 4 sports.

TENNIS

General Information

All Years 3 – 6 students playing Tennis must attend the trials being held on Tuesday 4 October and Thursday 6 October from 7:00am until 8:00am, and on Saturday 8 October from 7:30am until 9:00am.

These trials will be held at the Canterbury Tennis Centre.

Those wishing to play tennis fixtures must:

  • Have enough knowledge of the game to umpire their team members’ games.
  • Possess the skills necessary to serve and return a ball consistently.

Students with these attributes must attend the trials to qualify for selection in our Junior TAS Tennis team.

Tennis Fixtures

Tennis fixtures will begin in Week 2 of Term 4 on Saturday 15 October and proceed for 5 weeks until Saturday 12 November.

All fixtures will be played at a range of Home and Away venues.

A draw will be developed and distributed in early Term 4.

Each week, students will play two matches – one singles match and one doubles match.

Equipment

Students must wear Canterbury PE shorts and the white Junior TAS shirt.

Students are advised to bring their own racquet to training and fixtures.

Canterbury hats must be worn during training and games.

Please Note: Students are permitted to play Tennis on a Saturday and AFL on a Friday night.

AFL

General Information

All Years 3 – 6 students wishing to play AFL will have their first training session on Wednesday 5 October from 3:30pm until 4:45pm on Oval 3.

Regular Wednesday trainings will then be from 3:30pm until 4:30pm.

The last training session will be held on Wednesday 2 November.

Please Note: No training on Wednesday 12 October due to the Canterbury College Sports Awards Evening.

AFL Fixtures

The Junior TAS AFL Carnival will be played over three weeks from Friday 21 October to Friday 4 November, with games being played at Canterbury College.

All games will be played from 4:00pm until 6:00pm (approximately).

As AFL games are played on Friday afternoons, students may participate in AFL, as well as Touch Football or Tennis.

Equipment

Students must wear Canterbury PE shorts and Canterbury long sports socks.

A Canterbury jersey will be provided to all students. Mouth guards are compulsory.

TOUCH FOOTBALL

General Information

All Years 3 – 6 students wishing to play Touch Football need to attend training on Tuesday 4 October for Girls and Thursday 6 October for Boys.

Training for both days will be held from 7:00am until 8:00am on Oval 3.

Touch Football Fixtures

The Junior TAS Touch Football Carnival will be played on both Saturday 22 and Saturday 29 October.

This year the carnival will be held at Ormiston College and games are expected to run from approximately 7:30am to 11:30am.

As Touch Football games are played on Saturday mornings, students may also play AFL on Friday afternoons.

Please Note: Students who wish to trial for Tennis, and if not selected, would like to play Touch Football, they must indicate this on their Tennis Nomination Form.

Equipment

Students must wear Canterbury PE shorts and the white Junior TAS shirt.

Boots with moulded studs are recommended but not compulsory.
