Talking Taipans Tennis 🎾…

Lots of good things (were) happening at the Canterbury Taipans Tennis Club (pre-lockdown) with our tennis athletes enjoying success at both local and national tournaments.

Head Tennis Coach James Rapkins gives us the lowdown…

8-year-old Lucy Brisbane came second at the Tennis Logan City (TLC) Junior Premier League Tournament in the Orange Ball U9 Category after being defeated by fellow Taipan Austin Musk.

Our Taipans came away with plenty of valuable match practice, as 50 of our tennis athletes compete in the TLC Leagues each week.

At the national level, High Performance Squad member Tayla Hunter-Geppert achieved a personal best result at the recent Rod Laver Lead-In Tournament, placing second in the Brisbane International Girls Universal Tennis Ranking (UTR) match-play event.

Being in the Taipans Tennis Club has also provided our high performance athletes the opportunity to compete at the Collegiate level over in the United States.

One of our players has been offered a full-ride athletic scholarship, while another has just completed his studies and enjoyed an excellent Collegiate career.

Currently, we are preparing our Taipans Tennis Squad members for an 8-day tournament trip (COVID-willing) to Rockhampton and Bundaberg during the September Holidays to play in national tournaments.

This trip will provide our players with an excellent opportunity to gain a lot of competitive experience.

We also run weekly fitness-based Adult Cardio Tennis sessions (when not in lockdown).

Look out for the next player information night for any local players looking to go big in tennis (post lockdown of course!).
