2024 Interhouse Public Speaking Competition | Event Recap & Photos

Last Friday, we revived the Interhouse Public Speaking Competition, which was last held in November 2021.

This event not only offered our students a chance to refine their public speaking skills, but also gave them the creative freedom to express their opinions and ideas.

It was an exciting way for students to earn points for their House, both through strong performances and active participation.

Each House had two speakers — one representing Years 7-9 and the other representing Years 10-12 — each delivering a speech of up to three minutes.

The topics they tackled included:

  • Actions Speak Louder Than Words
  • What Is Reality?
  • Gen Z vs Gen Alpha
  • The Language Of Music
  • The Importance Of Having A Hobby
  • The Person Who Was…
  • The ‘Truth’ Isn’t Always The Truth
  • Being Selfish Can Be A Good Thing
  • The Year That Was…

The adjudicators of this competition were Teacher Mr Declan McBride, College Chaplain Dan Talbot, and a few members of the Year 12 Debating Team.

The results are currently being tallied and will soon contribute to the Canterbury Cup overall standings.
