Digital Solutions Across Junior And Secondary School
What an amazing day watching active engagement between students and their work – but more importantly, seeing how the older Year 10 students engaged with the younger Year 5 students.
Year 10 Digital Solutions students had to re-invent or innovate a current or new board game by incorporating an Arduino unit.
Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software.
Arduino boards are able to read inputs – such as light on a sensor, a finger on a button, or a Twitter message – and turn it into an output – like activating a motor, turning on an LED, or publishing something online.
Currently the Year 5 students are learning about circuits and how the Arduino can collect and display information.
This is a perfect example of how their learning evolves and stays relevant starting in Junior School and then into Secondary School.
The Year 10 students did an amazing job explaining the rules of their game, how they created it and then asking for feedback from the Year 5 students – who were the consumers or target audience.
These electronically upgraded games included Monopoly Junior, Snakes And Ladders, a Pinball Machine, LEGO and other mind-puzzle and sensory entertainment.
The genuine teaching and learning and sharing interactions have been amazing to watch in the classroom.
Thank you to all our Year 10 and Year 5 students for their fantastic engagement and dedication to their projects.
We cannot wait to see how we will collaborate again in the future…
