Year 9 Drama Students Perform Futuristic Pieces For Assessment

Year 9 Drama Students Perform Futuristic Pieces For Assessment

Today, our Year 9 Drama students showcased their Contemporary Theatre performances, featuring scenes from David Burton's play 'Wisdom'.

The play delves into a futuristic society where aging halts at 16 due to a groundbreaking injection, leaving individuals physically frozen in their teens, while they continue to mature mentally and emotionally.

It challenges conventional notions of wisdom and expertise, questioning whether age necessarily correlates with wisdom.

eSports Success For Canterbury @ FUSE Cup Tournament

eSports Success For Canterbury @ FUSE Cup Tournament

On Monday and Tuesday this week, our Canterbury Rocket League eSports teams showcased their prowess in the Fuse Cup Tournament held at the CEC.

The event witnessed intense competition and commendable sportsmanship.

In the Years 5-8 division, Canterbury teams displayed exceptional skill, dominating the round stages to qualify for three out of four quarter-finals.

In some tight knock-out matches, the duo of Tyler Pluples and Hudson Holland demonstrated remarkable talent, advancing to the final where they narrowly lost to Forest Lake State High School.

Remarkably, all members of our team in this division are in Years 6 and 7, promising even stronger competition in the coming years.

Highlighting the spirit of fair play and positive attitude, Humdhann Ikhlas was recognised as the MVP for the first day, a testament to his exemplary conduct throughout the competition.

Day 2 saw Canterbury boasting two formidable teams in the Years 9-10 division.

Easily navigating through the round stages, both teams secured their spots in the semi-finals, facing off against Forest Lake teams.

After triumphant victories in the semis, Canterbury found themselves in a unique position - a Canterbury vs Canterbury final.

The final showdown was nothing short of exhilarating.

The duo comprising Bentley Horne and Lucas Noy emerged victorious, clinching the title after winning the first two games in the best-of-three final series.

The success of Canterbury College in the Fuse Cup Rocket League Tournament not only underscores their skill in competitive gaming, but also reflects their commitment to sportsmanship and teamwork.

All Canterbury students represented the college admirably, and their achievements fill us with pride.

As we celebrate their achievements, we eagerly anticipate their continued success in future competitions, knowing they will continue to uphold the values of excellence and sportsmanship that define Canterbury College.

2024 Canterbury Interhouse Maths Teams Challenge & Pi Day Contest | Recap & Photos

2024 Canterbury Interhouse Maths Teams Challenge & Pi Day Contest | Recap & Photos

Guess what? It's Pi Day!

And no - not the food kind...

Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and is an irrational number with infinite decimal places - from 3.14159........

Of course - we all knew that!

So to celebrate, we held our annual Canterbury Interhouse Maths Teams Challenge during today's lunch break and Assembly. ✖️➕➖➗

This event provided a platform for students selected from each House to participate in mathematical competitions across various age groups and relay events.

Participants showcased their academic ability, logic skills and memory by trying to recite as many pi decimal places as possible, and tackling various 'degree of difficulty' mathematical problems.

Stay tuned, as we will announce the challenge's results and winners shortly!

Soroptimist International: Friday’s International Women’s Day Breakfast | Event Wrap

Last Friday morning, senior students and prefects Jasmine Wheatley (Performing Arts Captain), Ruby Wandschneider (Social Justice Captain), Ella Furlong (Goldsworthy House Captain) and Kaylee Tamala (Kime House Captain) represented Canterbury College at the Soroptimist International’s annual International Women’s Day Breakfast.

Established in 1921, Soroptimist International is a global volunteer organisation comprising approximately 66,000 club members across 120 countries.

Its central mission is advocating for human rights and gender equality, so Soroptimist International's United Nations representatives strive to ensure the voices of women and girls are heard.

They aim to empower women and girls to fulfill their personal and collective potential, achieve their aspirations, and advocate for equality within communities globally.

Breakfast attendees heard from Logan’s Centre Against Sexual Violence representatives about the important work they do supporting and empowering the women and girls in their care.

Proceeds from the morning were donated to the Centre to support more victims of sexual violence.

Our student leaders were grateful to hear from other guest speakers who shared their experiences and projects to support those in need in our local community.
