Green Zone Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures

Let’s Keep the Green Zone Flowing!

Morning Drop-Off

Time: 8:00–8:30am (Supervised at the Meadow)
Location: Easterly Street Car Park – Green Drop-Off Zone
Who: Prep – Year 2 students
Helpers: Year 6 leaders in orange vests are available to walk children to the gate.

Two Options for Drop-Off:

  • Use the Green Drop-Off Zone (stay in your car)

The Scholastic Book Fair Has Officially Landed At Canterbury!

The Scholastic Book Fair Has Officially Landed At Canterbury!

This morning began with curious minds and the gentle rustle of pages turning in the Junior School STEAM Room, as our literary explorers eagerly dove into stories filled with adventure, mystery, and imagination.

The Scholastic Book Fair is open on weekdays until Monday 26 May, with visiting hours from 7:30am to 8:30am and again from 3:30pm to 4:00pm each day.

Families are warmly invited to attend and browse the collection with their children – it's a wonderful opportunity to share in the joy of reading together.

Alternatively, students can fill out a Wish List card, including prices, to take home and share with their families – making it easy to plan for their next great read.

There’s something for every young reader, with hundreds of fun, engaging, and affordable books for kids of all ages - from dragons and detectives to diaries and more.

Even better, every purchase helps us earn free books and valuable resources for our libraries and classrooms.

Reminder: We’re also looking for parent volunteers to assist during the event.

If you’re available to help, please contact Ms Anita Pendreigh, Head of Libraries and Information Services, at .

Let’s turn the page on a week full of stories and smiles – we hope to see you there.

Becket House | Rosies Charity Drive – Donations Needed!

Supporting Rosies: Friends on the Street

Our Becket House charity collection for Rosies is underway, and we’re calling on our wonderful Canterbury College community to lend a hand.

This year, Rosies has specifically requested hygiene products to support people experiencing homelessness.

  • Toothpastes
  • Roll-on deodorants

We're also holding a Cup Noodles Drive to support Rosies in keeping people warm and nourished during the chilly winter months.

Please donate only cup-packaged noodles (not flat packets), as these are more practical for Rosies to distribute.

  • Junior School Administration Office

When to Donate:

  • Now until Monday 16 June (Week 9 - Last week of Term 2)

From Class to Coast: Year 12 Sport and Rec Students Take on the Surf

Our Year 12 Sport and Recreation class has been busy at the Canterbury Taipans Aquatic Centre Pool and Broadbeach Surf Lifesaving Club, completing their Surf Lifesaving Certificates, Bronze Medallions, and supporting the community through lifeguarding shifts.

This work culminated in a recent camp at Broadbeach Surf Lifesaving Club, where students spent three days and two nights completing rescues, simulating emergency scenarios, and working towards their SLSQ qualifications or Sport and Recreation assessments.

College will re-open on Wednesday 12 March

College Will Re-open On Wednesday 12 March

Dear Canterbury community,
I am pleased to share that the whole College will reopen on Wednesday 12 March.
Now that the power is back on and there are enough viable routes to school open, it is time for us to return. Thank you to the Property and Works team for getting the campus looking so good in such a short period of time.
It seems the case that not all roads to Waterford from every direction of travel will be open. We understand that some staff and some families may not be able to get to school on Wednesday. This is ultimately a decision that must be based on the best information you have about your local area flood risks. I would ask parents to notify us through the regular student absentees channels if your sons and daughters cannot attend tomorrow.
Bus services
We have been advised that Logan Coaches and Clark's will be operating with only minor modifications to routes in flood-affected streets on their routes. Park Ridge Transit have not yet confirmed their plans. We will share any further news from the providers as we receive it.
Food services
Our canteen and cafés will be operating.
Assessment calendar
We will be publishing a revised assessment calendar on Wednesday which will show new dates for upcoming assessment in the Senior School.
Cocurricular
Sport training for TAS tennis, basketball and volleyball will resume. However, cricket and football training will not yet resume until our ovals dry out.
Taipans swimming and tennis will also resume.
All performing arts, thoughtsports and clubs will resume on Wednesday as well.
Our TAS sport round on Saturday is away against West Moreton Anglican College. If there are any cancellations due to unavailability of ovals etc, we will advise later in the week.
Events
Our planned Foundation Day service for Friday morning will continue as scheduled. Whether the Cursus Magnus can proceed is a decision for later in the week.
NAPLAN for Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 will commence on Monday 17 March.
I look forward to seeing our campus come back to life tomorrow. Thank you for your patience and understanding over the past few days.
Regards,
Dan Walker
Principal

Ex-TC Alfred Update #5

Ex-TC Alfred Update #5

Dear Canterbury community,What a tumultuous 72 hours it has been for many Canterbury families. I continue to send out positive messages and good wishes to our entire community.

Across our 1100 families, which span across and between Beaudesert to the south-west, Greenbank and New Beith to the north-west, Coomera to the south, Parkinson to the north and Mt Cotton and Shailer Park to the east, we have well and truly seen combinations of every weather-related hardship and complexity.

On the basis of the mix of issues still confronting our community, I advise that we cannot re-open the College on Tuesday.

Flood waters are still rising and we still have no power connected to the eastern half of the campus.  Dozens of our staff currently remain cut off from the College as well.  Major flood warnings for the Logan River remain in place.  Major bus routes to Canterbury will not be navigable based on flood maps and cameras that we have access to.  Many of you will be getting your own household back into action in the next 24 hours, with all that this entails. I'm sorry to say that many have had good practice at this task over the past three years!

However, there are definitely some Canterbury families who are in a relatively good situation at the moment and whose children are ready to be doing some learning at home. For this reason, I have asked as many teachers from Years 4-12 as possible to be in contact with their classes to advise what they could be working on over the next day or so from home. I know many teachers have already done this.

If there are assessment deadlines approaching, these will be reshaped by curriculum leaders and you will be advised through MyCC of any new dates.

If they are able, teachers of Prep to Year 3 will be emailing parents with activities or tasks that can be completed from home tomorrow.

In all cases though, because a reasonable percentage of our families may not have power or internet, these learning resources are provided for consideration only, rather than compulsory completion.

Canterbury will be commencing NAPLAN next week (week beg Monday 17 March). There will be no NAPLAN completed this week.

We are making arrangements at present for re-opening of the campus on Wednesday. This is contingent on two factors however: our local major arterial roads being clear from flood waters and power being reconnected to the eastern half of the campus. A thorough risk assessment will be completed before we can advise the circumstances of the College's reopening.

I know this is not necessarily the news that every family will be welcoming. Many schools will be able to re-open on Tuesday and we would of course much prefer for this to be the case for us. However, we need a viable workforce and multiple safe routes to Canterbury to be a reality in order to do so.

Best wishes to all and thank you for your understanding.

Regards

Pre-planning for TC Alfred (Update #3)

Pre-planning for TC Alfred (Update #3)

Dear parents, carers and students,

We have made the decision today that Canterbury College will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

This includes the ELC, OSHC and all administration functions.

As we will not be able to staff the ELC or OSHC, we have concluded that we cannot operate these services in any capacity.

In line with the Premier's advice from today, we do not want anybody on the roads over the next two days.

I am acutely aware that our staff and families are dispersed, to the west, south, north and east of Canterbury.

Even though the cyclone is not projected to cross the coast until Friday morning, Thursday will be critical for most families (and indeed the school itself) to prepare for the wind, rain and flooding that we will all be confronting over the next few days.

Although teachers will be making lesson materials for Years 4-12 available through OneNote and MyCC, there will be no expectation that this work can be completed.

There are also some hard copy learning resources that will be emailed or come home with students in Prep to Year 3.

Your number one priority will of course however, be protecting your house, businesses and possessions from the wild weather over the next few days.

It must be said that if the forecasts are correct, there is a high likelihood that our College will be cut off from the parts of the community by Monday and Tuesday and there may be power and internet outages that persist into next week.

If this is the case, we will not be reopening until it is safe for travel on the major roads leading to Canterbury and the campus is hazard-free.

Above all else, I hope and pray that all of our 1100 families, 300 staff, 1650 students and the City of Logan in its entirety, is able to navigate its way safely through the next few days.

I will remain in contact with the you through MyCC, Facebook and Instagram as more information needs to be shared.

2025 Year 7 Outdoor Education And Rite Of Passage

2025 Year 7 Outdoor Education And Rite Of Passage

The 2025 Year 7 Outdoor Education program at Kenilworth – Adventure Alternatives was action-packed, designed to help students develop positive relationships with themselves, their peers, various environments, and adventure.

Students worked in their House groups and camped at different locations within the Kenilworth Centre, each offering picturesque views of the stunning countryside.

They prepared their own meals and participated in a range of fun and challenging activities, including mountain biking, stand-up paddleboarding, archery tag, raft building, and a mix of high and low rope activities.

As part of the Rites of Passage framework, students also engaged in nighttime ‘talking circles,’ where they reflected on their challenges, successes, and support networks.

After three days of challenge and growth at Adventure Alternatives, our Year 7 students returned to a heartfelt welcome at the Bush Chapel.

Greeted by their parents, this Rite of Passage symbolised their transition into Senior School.

Having demonstrated their commitment to overcoming challenges and supporting their team members, the ceremony at the Bush Chapel marked their official entry as valued members of the Senior School community.

A meaningful part of the ceremony was the students presenting Gratitude Cards to their parents and carers.

These cards contained reflections on their Outdoor Education experience and expressions of gratitude for aspects of their own lives.

Photos from the 2025 Year 7 Outdoor Education and their Rite of Passage are now available on our Facebook page here.
