3D Movie Animation
Do you like making movies? Designing characters and stories? Then this subject is for you!
Students are immersed in becoming storytellers by designing their own amateur characters, and using their imagination to allow their characters to come to life, in their own stop-motion movie.
Students collaboratively work together to investigate animation characters.
They design their characters, create their characters, and then transport their characters into their own movie.
Students have the opportunity to plan, design, build, problem-solve, reflect and improve their creation.

Join us for the...
2023 Semester 2 Junior School Spark Learning Expo | 11:30am - 1:30pm, Wednesday 15 November | Canterbury Events Centre (CEC).
We invite you to explore the displays and presentations created by our upper Junior School students throughout Semester 2 this year in their Spark Classes.
---------------------
What is SPARK?
SPARK is an elective-based ‘hands-on’ curriculum for Years 5 and 6 students that is unique to Canterbury.
Each semester our students choose a special subject to study.
Then students from both year levels are combined into the same classroom and taught by relevant staff.
SPARK is about building curiosity, encouraging students to try something new, and providing an exceptional opportunity for them to embark on their own learning journey, as part of their ‘World Ready’ Canterbury education.
When does SPARK occur?
SPARK happens once per week, with students encouraged to continue their learning beyond the classroom.
How does SPARK link to the curriculum?
SPARK focuses on the Australian Curriculum’s general capabilities, looking at critical and creative thinking, personal and social capability, ethical understanding and intercultural understanding.
How can I see my child’s learning?
The Junior School hosts a learning exhibition at the end of each semester, where all students will have something to exhibit based on their SPARK sessions.

Students Prepare Rosemary Plants For THIS Friday's Whole School Remembrance Day Ceremony
Our Canterbury Kitchen Garden program promotes education and sustainability, so we are creatively reusing the plastic pots from ANZAC Day for Remembrance Day.
This campus-grown rosemary will be displayed at our Whole School Remembrance Day Ceremony THIS Friday at 11:30am. ️
It's heartwarming to see students from all grades coming together to prepare these pots, highlighting our strong sense of community. ✨
Thank you to our Junior School Eco Warriors and gardening guru Mr Penny for leading this endeavour.

Saturday's Waterford West Regional First Lego League Competition | Taipan Roboneers Event Wrap & Final Result
Our Taipan Roboneers represented Canterbury at Saturday's Waterford West Regional First Lego League Competition.
Spending the day at our host school, Marsden State High School, our students competed in robot competitions and presented their innovation project and robot to a panel of judges.
This event was the culmination of many hours of work doing robot building, coding, adjusting, researching and developing.
So Saturday was their chance to finally put their project and robot up against 26 other teams.
The Taipan Roboneers’ hard work and academic intelligence resulted in them being awarded the Engineering Excellence Trophy.
This prestigious award was presented to the team for having an efficiently designed robot, plus an innovative project solution that effectively addressed this season’s challenge, and demonstrating Core Values in all they do.
This exciting event was capped off with our Roboneers coming in 3rd place overall, thus qualifying for a place in the Northern National Competition to be held later this term.
Congratulations Taipan Roboneers and their Teacher/Coordinator Mrs Jess Traurig!

2023 Year 11 Biology Camp | Full Excursion Wrap
2023 Year 11 Biology Camp | Full Excursion Wrap
Thursday 2 November dawned bright and sunny, as 43 excited Year 11 students and their teachers (Mr Nicholson, Ms Moore and Mr Mills) boarded the bus to travel to Hastings Point for the two-day Biology Field Trip Camp.
During the camp, the students worked hard to collect data from three key ecosystems: mangroves, sand dunes and rocky shores.
We scrambled over the rocky shore foraging for all manner of life hiding within the crevices of the rock pools.
The students relished the opportunity to get up close and personal with anemones, sea stars, urchins and sea hairs.
We strode over the sand dunes to learn about succession, and collect data to enable an analysis of the variances between disturbed and undisturbed ecosystems.
We tiptoed around pneumatophores, dodged the fiddler crabs and licked salt excreted from the leaves of the Aegiceras corniculatus.
Then the students literally immersed themselves in the mangrove habitat.
In the evening, the students explored the world of plankton, marveling at the microscopic wonders that occupy the sea water.
On Friday we took to the water in kayaks to learn more about estuarine ecology.
Some students struggled to get in and then stay in their kayaks, while others reveled in the hilarity of frequent splashing bombardments.
Punctuating the noisy chaos of splash battles and capsizing, we meandered down the estuary, savoring the tranquility and noting evidence of human impacts.
The Year 11 Biology Camp is a challenging academic experience and once again, the biologists rose to the occasion - working hard, but with good humour, into the late evening to analyse and interpret their field work.
I commend the students on their openness to new experiences and to learn new things.
They were wonderful risk takers, with some kayaking, being away from home, and venturing into the wilderness, for the very first time.
Some students also took calculated risks in emerging from their cabins without shoes on.
Fortunately, all the teachers (but especially Mr. Mills) were there to keep them safe.
Upon returning to Canterbury, we will now spend several weeks dissecting and analysing the data collected on our camp.
This is our way of developing a deep and real appreciation of the key ecological principles that underpin our studies.
Hence, the educational value of the 2023 Biology Camp extends well beyond the two days that we were off campus.

Year 4 Carrot Cake Production Event Wrap + Video + Photo Gallery + CAKE RECIPE!
Today some of those carrots were used to make carrot cakes - with our recipe attached!
Working in groups of 2-4, our Year 4 classes followed the recipe, and each class made 16 delicious carrot cakes.
After 40 minutes in the oven, the cakes were ready and our young students enjoyed the fruits of their labour.
Our students even shared their carrot cakes with a Year 2 class and got to take any leftovers home!
Check out this short video from the baking session.
