2021 City Of Logan Sports Awards: Two Nominations!
2021 City Of Logan Sports Awards: Two Nominations!
The City Of Logan Sports Awards will be held THIS Saturday night 13 November at the Logan Metro Sports Centre in Crestmead.
This high-end celebration is a chance to pay tribute to Logan’s elite athletes and inspirational sports people.
These Awards recognise home-grown sporting icons whose accomplishments have seen them reach the highest level in their chosen sport.
Our Canterbury Taipans are nominees in two categories:
YOUNG ATHLETE WITH A DISABILITY - Rhylee Jackson (Year 9).
Rhylee Jackson is an excellent tennis player who has been profoundly deaf his whole life.
While competing very well in mainstream competition, Rhylee has excelled in the past 12 months at a National level in the Deaf & Hard Of Hearing (DHOH) competitions.
Thanks to Matt Bourne and Drew Parker for doing such a great job with squads and individual lessons, and we look forward to cheering Rhylee on the night.
SPORTS EVENT OF THE YEAR - Canterbury Taipans Inaugural Junior Girls Tennis Championships 2021.
In July 2021, the Canterbury Taipans hosted the first ever ‘ALL GIRL’ National Point Junior Event.
It was ground-breaking, inspiring and brilliantly delivered thanks to the teams in marketing, facilities and tennis.
The event drew some amazing feedback and has sparked the plans for a ‘Girls Only’ circuit adopted by Tennis Queensland, to increase the participation of women in sport and particularly, to rescue the dropout rate in female teenage tennis players.
Please wish us luck on Saturday night!
Canterbury College: First LEGO League Challenge
Canterbury College: First LEGO League Challenge
This past weekend saw two teams represent Canterbury College at the First LEGO League Challenge at the Brisbane Regional Competition.
The students have worked very hard over the past few months to build, program and then compete with their robot.
Each team identified a real-life problem within the community, with the aim of developing a LEGO solution.
They brainstormed in teams, researched the latest developments related to their investigation, and made an implementation plan.
This process, including their problem resolution, was presented to a panel during the day.
The students demonstrated gracious professionalism throughout all the events of the day and represented Canterbury College with pride.
The culmination of hard work, perseverance and diligence lead to all teams having an enjoyable experience at the competition.
The teams Cargo Vroom and Connect’A’Roos did an excellent job showcasing the skills they had learnt leading up to the event.
A special congratulations to the Year 5/6 team who came away with an award as Rising All-Stars across all areas of this program.
A massive congratulations to all students who participated!
