Our 2024 Canterbury College Alumnus Of The Year Award Winner is…

Our 2024 Canterbury College Alumnus Of The Year Award Winner is…

Our winning past student was a 2003 School Captain, who went on to complete a Bachelor of Business Management Degree majoring in Human Resources, at the University of Queensland.

Since 2011, she’s been working for the Brisbane Airport Corporation, making their Executive Team in 2018, as the Executive General Manager of Human Resources.

While our school faced its own COVID pandemic campus hurdles, can you imagine the ‘mega challenges’ the HR Department of an airport went through?

Hundreds of cancelled flights, long-term grounded crews, reduced maintenance hours, forced staff redundancies, skeleton airport services… the list goes on…

And then, having to pull it all back together again, and rebuild staff levels after COVID ended.

Well, our Canterbury alumnus helped steer the Brisbane Airport Corporation through this HR nightmare.

In return, her strategic HR skills have been formally recognised, with the BAC being awarded ‘Best HR Strategic Plan’ – a document which she co-authored.

She’s also been shortlisted as a finalist for the ‘Best Learning and Development Strategy’ at the National HR Awards.

Brisbane Airport Corporation has been recognised as an ‘Employer of Choice’ by both the Australian Business Awards and Australian HR Awards during our graduate’s tenure.

She has served on the board of the Karlee Adams Foundation – a not-for-profit organisation working to reduce the impact of melanomas and other skin cancers on Australians.

And last year she participated in the Live Like Her Challenge to raise awareness and money for homeless women.

She’s also campaigned for better support by employers for pregnant women and for women working in the infrastructure sector.

So it gives us great pleasure on Canterbury College’s 37th Birthday Foundation Day to present the 2024 Alumnus of the Year Award to Mrs Jane Dionysius – or as we knew her in 2003 – Ms Jane Hampson!

As part of this prestigious past student award, Canterbury donated $1,000 to Jane’s favourite nominated charity organisation – Melanoma Patients Australia – Karlee Adams Foundation Partners.

2024 Foundation Day Cursus Magnus Relay Race | Photo Gallery & Video

Last Friday morning, Canterbury’s Cursus Magnus Relay Race – featuring Years 5-12 boys and girls student teams from each of our six Houses, an alumni past students team, and current staff team, was held in front of the entire College community around Oval 2.

‘The Great Race’ is an extremely popular annual Foundation Day tradition with students, staff, parents and carers, as well as former students and staff alike.

Our eight teams of eight runners compete for Canterbury Cup house points, as well as athletic glory – cheered on by hundreds of supportive spectators decked out in House colours.

Each runner must complete their required distance before passing the baton onto the next runner, until all eight runners have completed their turn, to find the overall winning team.

And this year, for the first time in recent history, our winning squad was actually the alumni team!

So congratulations to: Jayden Schipplock (Class of 2021), Meg Radburn (Class of 2017), Baxter Hood (Class of 2019), Lachlan Walker (Class of 2021), Hayden Walker (Class of 2020), Kloe Lockhart (Class of 2021), Hmily Shantala – nee Frost (Class of 1995), and Mark Burley (Class of 2013).

As for the winning House racking up points towards securing the yearly Canterbury Cup?

Well… it was Ramsey House for the third year straight! Wow!

Congratulations to the Ramsey Raptors (yet again) with their new Cursus Magnus mini dynasty!

Temple House Brumbies: 'Green Team' St Patrick's Day Food Fest Fundraiser | Photo Gallery

In celebration of St Patrick's Day happening this weekend, our Temple House ‘green team’ hosted the Senior School campus for some green pancakes, green cupcakes, green jelly treats, and (surprise surprise) green flavoured slushies in the Senior Meadow.

Some students even wrapped themselves in green streamers to really get into the ‘Paddy’s Day’ spirit.

Today’s fundraising supports Indigenous Community Connections, with plans to source, buy and plant Indigenous species around our campus, and the creation of a ‘Yarning Circle’.

Check out our FULL photo gallery HERE to see the lunchtime festivities.

Wishing everyone a joyful St Patrick's Day this Sunday 17 March from the Temple House Brumbies!

Year 2 Excursion: Beenleigh Historical Village | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery

Year 2 Excursion: Beenleigh Historical Village | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery

Today, our excited Year 2 students took a step back in time at the nearby Beenleigh Historical Village and Museum.

In small groups, they explored the village’s colonial history, and were given a taste of the ‘olden days’.

Highlights included live demonstrations of…

• an operational fire engine

• traditional laundry techniques

• a printing press in action

• and the Loganholme ‘one teacher only’ school classroom.

In this last display, our little excursioners learnt about historical classroom etiquette, old generation teaching tools, and the ‘multi-year-level’ instruction methods used by the solitary teacher.

You can discover more about the Beenleigh Historical Village and Museum on their website HERE.

Goldsworthy House 'Inspire Inclusion' Student Led Workshops | Highlights Video & Poster

Ahead of International Women's Day THIS Friday 8 March, Canterbury students and staff have spent the week following this year’s global theme - 'Inspire Inclusion'.

This included a series of Goldsworthy House senior student led workshops, where students in each year level from grades 7-12, participated in a sharing compliments exercise.

The student cohorts learned to give, accept and embrace kind words with open grace and humility – especially from students not in their close friendship circles.

Check out the workshops highlights video and guiding 'Inspire Inclusion' poster attached below.

RACQ Driver Distraction Program @ Canterbury

RACQ Driver Distraction Program @ Canterbury

Today our Year 11 and selected Year 12 Students were educated on essential road safety strategies and insights through RACQ’s Driver Distraction Program.

Students viewed a mock crash scenario, highlighting the dangers of driving while distracted.

Guided by RACQ’s Education Team, the students came up with real-world strategies which can be applied to better protect themselves, their passengers, and other users on the road.

Participation was in accordance with our Student Driver Policy.

Thank you, RACQ!

2024 TAS Sport Trimester 1, Round 2: Canterbury vs St Paul’s School @ Home

Our students finally got back into the ‘summer swing’ of TAS Saturday sport, kicking off our premiership campaigns in Boys’ Cricket and Volleyball, and Girls’ Tennis, Basketball and Football (Soccer).

Our Canterbury athletes showcased their skills, natural talents, determination and sportsmanship, as they battled St Paul’s School all the way.

Kudos to each student and a HUGE thanks to all the parents and carers for their sideline support.

Up next we are away against WestMAC - West Moreton Anglican College.

Let’s go Taipans!
