Bands
Band exposure at Canterbury starts with the Beginner Band immersion program for all students in Year 5 and develop their skills through to membership of the Senior Bands. Beginner Band is Canterbury’s entry level wind ensemble, while Symphonic Band is the large ensemble for more advanced players. The band program students perform music from traditional repertoire, stage and screen as well as customised arrangements of familiar tunes. The main goal of the band program is for students to learn and engage in the everything from the fundamentals of the instruments and ensemble work. All band ensembles perform at school, local and state events.
For beginner woodwind, brass and percussionists from the Year 5 Band immersion or upon recommendation of a Studio Music Teacher.
For advanced band students working on at least AMEB Grade 3 standard or equivalent. Exceptions are made for students working on lower grades who are progressing at an outstanding rate.
For advanced players via an audition. Membership in Symphonic Band also required, with the exception of piano, guitar and bass.
