Beenleigh Junior Quota Club's 12 Hour Homeless Challenge Completed!

Beenleigh Junior Quota Club's 12 Hour Homeless Challenge Completed!

Four Canterbury students spent their weekend participating in the 12 Hour Challenge hosted by the Junior Quota Club Of Beenleigh.

From Saturday overnight to Sunday (28-29 May), Tayla Budd, Benjamin Stanley, Lily Rider and Morgan Watt all slept outside on the Beenleigh tennis courts.

They learned a lot about homelessness and got to experience first-hand what life on the streets could be like.

Our 'awesome four-some' also enjoyed meeting fellow like-minded students from other schools, participating in a two hour percussion lesson, playing extreme handball for four hours, and sleeping on the concrete.

From the students' perspective, it was a really good experience with a great group of people, and they will definitely be signing up again for next year.

All funds raised will go towards youth programs centred around the Beenleigh and Logan areas.

English-Speaking Union: Annual Secondary Schools Public Speaking Competition

English-Speaking Union: Annual Secondary Schools Public Speaking Competition

The English-Speaking Union (ESU) is an international educational charity dedicated to promoting international understanding and human achievements through English.

Led by a Board and supported by members and volunteers, the ESU holds an annual Secondary Schools Public Speaking Competition.

On Tuesday 17 May, the Junior heats of the competition took place in Brisbane, and Canterbury College was proudly represented by Ariadna Prutean, Aiobhe Kerrigan, Niya Kaniyankandi, Ashutosh Vaitha and Sylar Carney - who all spoke fluently and convincingly on the set topic: ‘It always seems impossible until it is done.’

Each of our students approached the task in different ways, sharing personal stories of resilience, as well as referring to topical events which inspire hope for the future.

Following the speeches, the adjudicator delivered valuable group and individual feedback, to assist our students in developing their public speaking skills.

Given the confidence and flair demonstrated at this level, we have some promising speakers of the future.

Well done and congratulations to all participants! 👏👏👍👍🤩☺️
