Hello Everybody,
I hope you’re enjoying this warmer weather and longer, sunnier days as we edge towards spring.
For myself and Nadia, while only being here a few weeks, we really appreciate your warm welcomes to go with the amazing sunsets here on the Hill.
And I want to express my thanks for all the conversations and feedback we’ve had from parents and members on the Aquatic Centre and Swimming Club.
Now, nothing builds a great Swimming Club like fun, family-oriented Club Nights.
And this will be a huge focus as we move forward into Term 4, 2023 and Term 1, 2024.
So to splash into these Club Nights, we’ll be hosting a FREE Informal BBQ Information Event.
Come and enjoy a free sausage sizzle, learn about Club Nights and our Swimming Program, and how you can get involved as a parent or carer.
Finally, even though I’m only a few weeks into my role here at the Canterbury Taipans, I have to say I’m already proud to be part of this Swimming community.
I can’t wait to build a mighty club with you all!

Hello Everybody,
Andrew and I have both enjoyed getting the chance to chat with quite a few parents, and appreciate all the honest feedback we’ve received about sorting better booking systems, payment processes, coaching programs etc.
I would love to keep these conversations going – and meeting more parents, students and members, so I’m organising a FREE Informal BBQ Information Evening.
As we build our new vision for Canterbury Taipans Tennis, we want parents and participants to be part of this process from the ground up, as we look to grow with a happy membership base.

So come and say hi and have a chat about the club and all things Tennis!

REMINDER: Logan's RNA (Ekka) Show Public / School Holiday THIS Monday 14 August!
REMINDER: Logan's RNA (Ekka) Show Public / School Holiday THIS Monday 14 August!
Canterbury College will be CLOSED THIS Monday 14 August for the annual Logan RNA (Ekka) Show Public / School Holiday.
Our Early Learning Centre AND Canterbury Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Service AND Canterbury Aquatic, Tennis & Athletics Sports Centre will also NOT be operating.
The following Wednesday 16 August is Brisbane’s RNA (Ekka) Show Public Holiday, and is NOT a Logan Area Public Holiday, so our school will operate as per normal on this Wednesday.
Enjoy your upcoming long weekend everybody!
NB: These holidays are based on the school's physical address in the Logan City Council OR Brisbane City Council Local Government Areas, NOT the home suburbs where our parents are coming from, which causes confusion sometimes.
Years 9 & 11 Design Workshop With Industry Expert | Mr Andrew Scott: QUT School of Design Lead Lecturer
Years 9 & 11 Design Workshop With Industry Expert | Mr Andrew Scott: QUT School of Design Lead Lecturer
We are thrilled to share an academic event that took place at Canterbury this morning, involving the renowned Mr Andrew Scott - the QUT School of Design's Lead Lecturer - Industrial Design.
This occasion was organised to provide our students with valuable insights into the world of industrial design, and to prepare them for their future academic and professional journeys.
Mr Scott engaged with our Year 9 and 11 students in a comprehensive workshop session.
Keynote Presentation & Sketching Workshop - Year 9:
For our Year 9 Design students, Mr Scott led an engaging sketching workshop, allowing students to delve into hands-on design experiences and cultivate their artistic skills.
The session offered a glimpse into the creative world of design and nurtured their potential as budding designers.
Design University Experience - Year 11:
For our Year 11 students, Mr Scott presented an insightful keynote into what the design field entails at the university level, providing them with a valuable preview of what to expect in their future academic pursuits.
This preparatory session was designed to equip them with essential knowledge as they approach their post-secondary education decisions.
Personal Interaction & Design Challenge Discussion:
As part of this very welcome opportunity, Mr Scott devoted time to interact with our students on a personal level.
He spent a significant amount of time engaging in conversations with the students regarding their ongoing design projects - specifically the homeless design challenge.
This interaction not only enhanced their understanding of design principles, but also allowed them to receive constructive feedback from an industry expert.
Mr Scott's feedback and guidance will undoubtedly shape their projects as they progress.
Summary
Overall, the event with Mr Andrew Scott was a great opportunity for our students to gain an authentic university-like experience, bridging the gap between their current studies and future aspirations in the design field.
His expertise and genuine interest in our students' work left a lasting impact and inspired them to explore new horizons within the world of design.
We extend our gratitude to Mr Scott and the QUT School of Design for their valuable contribution to our students' growth and learning experience.
Such collaborations continue to define Canterbury College as a centre of excellence, preparing students for success in various academic and professional endeavours.

UPDATED: Junior School vs Secondary School vs Canterbury Staff | Inhouse Sudsy Challenge Fundraiser For Orange Sky Australia
There’s nothing like a bit of friendly and healthy in-house competition when it’s all for a great cause…
And this cause is Orange Sky Australia’s The Sudsy Challenge – raising much-needed funds and awareness for their FREE mobile laundry and warm shower services, and genuine conversations for the homeless.
Now the Junior School’s Years 5-6 student leaders, cohorts and staff – the 90+ member strong ‘Canterbury College Super Suds!’ – already enjoy a massive 3-week head-start, and hosted a hugely successful Junior School Sudsy Challenge Sausage Sizzle and other fundraising efforts, to reach a staggering $19,650!
They have easily raised enough money to earn their official bright orange The Sudsy Challenge t-shirts to wear for three days straight at the end of Term 3 for the ‘keeping our kit on’ challenge.
Here is the Junior School dedicated The Sudsy Challenge donations webpage HERE.
Meanwhile, our Secondary School just kicked off their own campaign on Thursday, with all Houses working together behind the Kime House Tigers, who are spearheading the fundraising and awareness for Years 7-12.
Their core activity is also getting heaps of volunteers sponsored to wear the official bright orange The Sudsy Challenge t-shirts for three days straight, to raise money for the cause during Week 10 (Last Week, Term 3) from Wednesday 13 – Friday 15 September.
To date, 'Canterbury Secondary' have raised $2,446 with five long weeks still to go!
Here is the Secondary School dedicated The Sudsy Challenge donations webpage HERE.
So which campus will you be supporting in this friendly in-house challenge?
Or… Maybe you want to support the Canterbury Staff fundraiser directly HERE and add to their $132.
To be honest, it doesn’t really matter as either way Orange Sky Australia and our local Logan area homeless are the winners!
Orange Sky Australia have provided Australians doing it tough with over 1.9 million kilograms of free laundry, 20,000 showers and 330,000 hours of genuine and non-judgmental conversation across 36 service locations around this country - super boosted by this annual The Sudsy Challenge campaign.
