The Dark Side Canterbury Astronomy Club 🚀🪐💫⭐️ NEW First Meeting Date
The Dark Side Canterbury Astronomy Club 🚀🪐💫⭐️ NEW First Meeting Date
A long time ago, in a school not too far away, the Empire was strong…
Over 100 Canterbury students were on the Dark Side, and we were an irresistible force.
More recently, the Dark Side has been in the background, making preparations for a return.
Now… the Empire is ready to strike back!
Actually, the Dark Side is Canterbury’s popular Astronomy Club.
And the club will be meeting again from next year.
Yes - every Monday after school from 3:30pm to 5:00pm in the College Secondary Library.
And ALL students from Year 5 to Year 12 are most welcome.
Our aim is to have some fun and learn a bit about the universe along the way.
These meetings will involve entertaining videos, news and astronomy topics ranging from the mind-blowing to the bizarre: supernovas, black holes, dark matter, relativity, Schrodinger's Cat, asteroid impacts and more.
As well as more normal things like Jupiter and quarks.
Then we will have follow-up activities such as: Internet research, model-making, quiz games with chocolate prizes, Jedi Knight training, and even lightsaber battles!
And everyone knows the Dark Side has cookies.
There will be events for the whole family too: star gazing with telescopes on the oval, a Star Wars movie marathon, a Brisbane Planetarium visit and family entertainment nights throughout the year.
BUT there’s no need to do anything until our first meeting on Monday 21 February 2022.
For more details and photos, please visit our website – Canterbury - The Dark Side.
AND join our brand new Canterbury Dark Side Public Facebook Group Page.
Then come to the Dark Side. It is your destiny... And we have cookies!

Special Gratitude Collaboration Between Our Year 5s & Year 10s
Special Gratitude Collaboration Between Our Year 5s & Year 10s
Our Year 5 and Year 10 students studied Gratitude as part of their College Well-Being Program.
This involved them developing engaging resources and activities, to share what they were grateful for with one another - bridging the five year age gap.
These activities were split across two days - the Year 10s sharing their gratitude learnings with the Year 5s on Day One, and then vice-versa on Day Two.
Through this creative program, all our students from both year levels, definitely learnt to better appreciate the 'little everyday joys' in life!

Our Year 7 ENGRAM Program Proves Big Winner With Students 🧠
A real winner in the Year 7 classrooms this year was our new ENGRAM - ENglish GRAMmar Program.
It's an in-house developed literacy initiative, driven by broader neuroscience research, that's boosted student test results by over 50%! 🧠
Better still, it can also be applied to other subject areas as well.
So here's an ENGRAM summary explanation wrap from our Secondary English Teacher Mr Turner and some of his benefiting students.

In partnership with PCYC Gold Coast, the Duke Of Edinburgh: Adventurous Journey is designed to challenge and provide students with a sense of achievement across various weekend activities at outdoor locations.
Organisers from PCYC Gold Coast mentored and instructed students as they assessed their ability to work as a team, take responsibility and make decisions for themselves.
Achieving the Duke Of Edinburgh's International Award is an adventure from beginning to end, and can give students some of their most memorable youth experiences.
