Seeking New Canterbury Homestay Families For International Students | Earn $46 Per Night, Per Student – Overnight, Weekend, School Holidays, Short-Term & Long-Term Options
Dear Parents & Carers,
We have an opportunity for our Canterbury families to be part of our wonderful Homestay Program, welcoming international students into their home.
Each year, Canterbury hosts overseas students from different countries all around the world, to study here at Canterbury College, and often these students require a homestay placement.
We are now seeking additional homestay families in our local Canterbury Community, who can help if a student needs to move from their current homestay location temporarily.
Families can host these students on a short-term basis – such as for a weekend or during the school holidays, or in a temporary scenario, which could just be for one night or several nights.
The choice is yours, and it’s a wonderful chance for a mutual cultural and language exchange between the student/s and your own family.
There may also be options for longer term placements if this is preferred.
Homestay families are paid $46 per night, per student.
If you are interested and would like to know more about homestay hosting, please email Canterbury’s Homestay Coordinator Mrs Catherine Holden -

Years 10 and 11 French Excursion To Micro-Folie Exhibition
On 26 March our Years 10 and 11 French students visited the Micro-Folie Exhibition at QUT, hosted by Alliance Française.
Micro-Folie is a digital museum that allows students to immerse themselves in French culture and art and explore renowned works from famed French, European, and international institutions such as the Louvre Museum, the Palace of Versailles, and the Picasso Museum.
Following a viewing of masterpieces by Vincent Van Gogh, students took part in a workshop facilitated by Alliance Française. ️️
Alliance Française de Brisbane is part of a worldwide network of 850 Alliance Française centres, supported by the French Government, which aim to promote the French language and francophone culture around the world.
This excursion was an excellent opportunity for students to engage with French native speakers and deepen their understanding of the importance of art in French culture.
It was a great experience!

2024 Privacy Collection Notice For Parents & Guardians | Address Collection By The Australian Government - Dept of Education
Collection Notice For School Parents & Guardians | 2024 Student Residential Address & Other Information.
The Australian Government Department of Education would like to notify you that we have requested for your child’s school to provide your residential address and other information.
Under the Australian Education Regulations 2023, the school is required to provide the department with the following information about each student at the school:
- names and residential addresses of the student’s parent(s) and/or guardian(s)
- student residential address (excluding student names)
- whether the student is a primary or secondary student (education level)
- whether the student is boarding or a day student (boarding status).
The school collects the above information by generating a unique and unidentifiable Student Reference Number (SRN) for each student record.
The school only uses the SRN for this collection.
The SRN cannot be used for any other purpose.
The number only indicates to the department that each record provided is for one student.
Collection Purpose
The Student Residential Address and Other Information Collection informs Australian Government school education policy and helps ensure funding for non-government schools is based on need.
The information collected is used to inform school funding calculations.
It is combined with Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data to calculate a non-government school community’s anticipated capacity to contribute to schooling costs.
In 2020, the department introduced a new measure of capacity to contribute: the Direct Measure of Income (DMI).
The DMI is based on the median income of non-government school students’ parents or guardians using this collection data.
What Do You Need To Do?
You are not required to do anything.
Your school is responsible for providing the department with the requested details; however, you can contact the school to update your family’s details.
For full information, please read the official PDF document HERE.
Thank you.
