Year 5 Update: Eureka! A Day on the Goldfields
As part of their Term 3 HaSS studies on Australian colonisation, Year 5 students stepped back in time to 1854 at Eureka Excursions.
Set in the thick bushland of a recreated 1854 goldfield township, students swapped their uniforms for the role of miners, shopkeepers, and townsfolk. They pitched tents, bought licences, mapped the land, and of course – panned for gold!
This immersive experience brought history to life, giving students a real sense of the challenges and opportunities faced by people on the goldfields. Role-plays, hands-on activities, and plenty of teamwork sparked thoughtful conversations about resilience, community, and the different perspectives that shaped Australia’s colonial story.
