Dear Canterbury Students,
I have two exciting pieces of news to share about Canterbury Dance for 2023...
Firstly, we have a brand new dance ensemble - so let me introduce the Canterbury Dance Troupe!
The Canterbury Dance Troupe is an opportunity for our Years 7-12 male and female students to participate in dancing for enjoyment within the College.
This ensemble will focus on developing technical and expressive dance skills across a range of styles, in a fun and non-competitive environment.
The students will perform at our annual Canterbury Dance Spectacular and at any other College dance performances that arise during the year.
Canterbury Dance Troupe:
- Lessons will begin in 2023 Term 1, Week 2 - Monday 30 January 2023.
- Then every Monday from 3:30pm - 5:00pm @ The Dance Studio (M12).
- Cost: $200 per year.
If you would like to join our Canterbury Dance Troupe in 2023, please sign up via this Microsoft Forms link HERE.
A letter with more details will be sent to you after registration.
Next, I am excited to announce that our very own Junior School Teacher Mr Michael Brown will be coaching BOYZONE in 2023!

Congratulations To Our Representative Cricketers!
Congratulations To Our Representative Cricketers!
During the September school holidays, Year 10 student Sarah Walker, was part of the Queensland Under 19s School Team in Caloundra.
They played three T20s and two 50-Over games against New South Wales.
Across these five clashes, Sarah took five wickets.
Captain of the South Coast Team, our Year 7 student Paige Simpson (pictured), also performed well with bat and ball.
She won the QLD School Sports title, but narrowly missed selection in the QLD team, despite her outstanding performance.
Our Year 8 student Nissanpal Saroya represented South Coast at the State Championships up in Rockhampton.
Due to the wet weather, they unfortunately missed out on two games.
However, that didn't stop Nissanpal from reaching the competition's highest score of 125 runs and taking 5 wickets.
At the end of the tournament, he was awarded with selection in the QLD Under 12 School Team, that will compete at the Nationals down in Ballarat at the end of Term 4.
Congratulations and well done to Sarah, Paige and Nissanpal on their achievements!
Regards,
Mr Alister McDermott
Coordinator of Cricket

2022 Music Fest Gold Award Recipients: Junior Singers & Junior School Choir
2022 Music Fest Gold Award Recipients: Junior Singers & Junior School Choir
Congratulations to our Junior Singers and Junior School Choir who both received a Gold Award at the 2022 Music Fest today.
Both groups performed at the Iona College Performing Arts Centre along with our Bella Voce ensemble.
Music Fest offers a platform for Primary and Secondary students to showcase their talents in a supportive concert environment.
All ensembles and choirs are professionally adjudicated by Queensland and interstate adjudicators, via a relaxed grading system.
It enables school students to perform structured, appropriately set, music scores - where all groups are rated against other ensembles at their level, through expressed performance indicators.
Music Fest is where excellence in performance and education can be celebrated each year across various Greater Brisbane venues.
Congratulations to all our talented Canterbury music students who competed this morning!
2022 Volleyball Queensland Junior Schools Cup | Years 7 & 8 Competition: 21-23 October - FULL Results
2022 Volleyball Queensland Junior Schools Cup | Years 7 & 8 Competition: 21-23 October - FULL Results
From Friday to Sunday, we competed at the 2022 Volleyball Queensland Junior Schools Cup, held at various venues across the Gold Coast - including the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre and the Gold Coast Sport and Leisure Centre (Carrara).
This tournament was for Years 7-8 Queensland school students, where a total of 225 teams were entered across the two age groups.
It was a great event for our Year 7 volleyball teams - our youngest Taipans volleyballers.
They have never been involved in a competition of this magnitude, and they experienced a completely different level of volleyball to their regular TAS competition.
Our Year 7s came up against some quality opponents and stuck it to them until the very last point.
Congratulations to all our Year 7 volleyball players on their debut Volleyball Queensland competition!
I hope this has inspired you to pursue volleyball in the coming years...
Our Year 8 Boys Volleyball team competed in Division 1, proving that they were a force to be reckoned with.
Two very close and hard-fought matches on Saturday saw them advance to the Semi-Final on Sunday morning.
They saved the best for last, winning the Semi-Final against the Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology (QASMT), and then the Grand Final against Cannon Hill Anglican College (CHAC) in straight sets!
Congratulations to Brayden Roos who was also named as the MVP of the Tournament among the Year 8 Division 1 teams.
Well done to Coach Casey Milne and his team, on an incredible, undefeated journey.
Plus a huge 'thank you' to our coaching and support staff - Yurii, Terence, Casey, Mrs Yvette Peterson and Mrs Debbie Milne - for coaching and helping guide our teams.
Thank you as well to our 2023 Volleyball Captains, Jeremy and Ava-Grace, for their support throughout the long weekend.
Our captains gave up their time to inspire, educate, support and nurture our Year 7s for their first ever competition.
A massive congratulations and well done to all!
Regards,
Mr Andrew Porter

The campus directional signs went up this morning showing...

While Aquatic Centre traffic goes to the right...
This means we have 'divided and conquered' any occasional carpark congestion, that previously existed in that space between the tennis courts and main swimming pool.

Professor Jellybean Teaches Our Prep Students About The Earth's Water Cycle
Professor Jellybean Teaches Our Prep Students About The Earth's Water Cycle
Professor Jellybean took our Prep students on a fun science investigation to discover the earth's water cycle, as part of their 'Weather in the World' module.
They discovered the journey of water from snow, through land, plants, and animals, through humans, to the oceans and up into our atmosphere.
They even made a never-melting snowball and discovered the way water moves through plants via some thirsty leaf activity.

Campion Education is our new supplier for 2023, and they provide an efficient online ordering system, as well as a convenient shopfront service in Salisbury.
We have found Campion to be a flexible and very economical option for our Canterbury families to date.
Each year level from 2 to 12 has an itemised list on both the Campion Education and Canterbury College websites.
There you will find a list of textbooks and/or general stationery required for all subjects in that year level, plus some subject specific requirements.
In some cases, items from previous years can be retained if they are still in good condition, which will further reduce costs to parents.
Parents can order online 24/7 and have items delivered to their homes for a $10.95 delivery fee, OR they can pick their orders up from Campion Education’s retail store located at - Unit 5, 121 Evans Road, Salisbury, Brisbane.
To order, please visit THIS WEBLINK, create an account, log in, and then order your supplies by entering the unique Canterbury code VTWM to access our Book & Stationery Lists.
To ensure delivery by the start of the 2023 School Year, ORDERS MUST BE PLACED BY FRIDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2022.
Delivery Orders placed by this due date will be delivered in the week ending Friday 9 December 2022.
Due to supply chain challenges, your delivery may arrive outside the original estimated delivery timeframe.
Collection Orders placed by this due date will be available in the week beginning Monday 5 December 2022 at the Campion Education Retail Service Centre in Salisbury.
Orders can still be placed after the due date by visiting the Campion website, or Retail Service Centre.
However, full stock availability cannot always be guaranteed for orders placed after the due date.
Further information, including links to Campion Education and the PDF Lists for each year level, are available on the Canterbury College website here - 2023 Years 2 - 12 Material Stationery Requirements Lists - Canterbury College.

In a change from previous years, Early Learning Centre, Prep and Year 1 students will have their Book List & Stationery supplies delivered to Canterbury in a bulk order.
This has greatly reduced the cost of these Book & Stationery Lists, and will also assist class teachers of these early years, to prepare classrooms for the first day of school.
