2024 Music Fest Competition: Gold Award Allegro Strings & Silver Award Bravura Strings | Event Recap
On Wednesday 23 October, our Junior School Strings Ensembles (Years 4-6) showcased their musical talents at Iona College for Music Fest 2024.
Their outstanding performances earned them top honours, with Allegro Strings winning a Gold Award and Bravura Strings securing a Silver Award.
Music Fest is an annual event that provides a platform for young musicians to showcase their talents in a supportive concert environment.
Performances are adjudicated by professional musicians from Queensland and interstate, giving students valuable feedback to refine their skills.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their exceptional performances and for representing Canterbury College with such distinction at this big event.

On the morning of Wednesday 23 October, our Early Learning Centre students enjoyed their big annual ELC Athletics Carnival.
Originally scheduled for Term 3, the popular event was postponed due to a gastro outbreak, but returned today under perfect sunny skies.
The children enthusiastically participated in a range of activities, including the 60m Sprint, Baton Relays, Obstacle Course, Discus, Standing Long Jump, and the famous Limbo.
It was heartwarming to see so many parents and carers cheering on, and even joining in the fun, with their children.

Year 9 Business Start-Ups: Industry Feedback Session | Event Wrap, Photos & Video
https://youtu.be/vtPUtGkMrCM
On Tuesday morning 22 October, our two Year 9 Start-Up Business classes merged to engage in a direct and very productive feedback session, with real-world industry professionals and business owners.
Over the past few weeks, these students have been exploring the foundational aspects of the start-up culture, resulting in the creation of their very own product-based or service-based businesses.
They centre around their natural areas of interest, or they represent products or services that can genuinely assist people in their daily life or leisure time.
This special feedback session was filled with a wealth of ideas, advice and inspiration from adults with relevant business, sales and marketing experience.
Guests included: Alex von Kanel – Founder of AutoBros, Gabriel Matt – Wilak Media, Jason Le – JRNY Digital, Jess Feeney, CEO – Daycare Swaggies, Melea Oakden – Daycare Swaggies, Kris Humphrys – Recre8 Automotive Group and Canterbury Parent, Kacie Bakos – Canterbury Parent, Jade Marshall – Founder of Paws and Pages and our Year 10 Start-Up student, plus various Canterbury staff members including Deputy Principal Meagan King.
All were impressed by the level of professionalism and enthusiasm shown by these Year 9s, and the advanced nature and thinking behind their concepts presented on the day.
A big ‘thank you’ to the industry professionals and staff who generously dedicated their time and ‘worklife wisdom’ to support our young entrepreneurs.
