Term 4, Week 7 Junior School Assembly Highlights | Red & Silver Colours Awards, Music Fest Awards, AMEB Exam Results & Feliz Navidad Song

Term 4, Week 7 Junior School Assembly Highlights | Red & Silver Colours Awards, Music Fest Awards, AMEB Exam Results & Feliz Navidad Song

On Thursday afternoon (Week 7), our Junior School held its final Assembly for 2024 in the CEC, celebrating a range of excellent achievements.

Firstly, we recognised students’ accomplishments across Canterbury’s four dimensions of Academics, Performing Arts, Service & Leadership, and Sports & Activities.

Congratulations to all students who earned their Red and Silver Colours badges and certificates.

Gold Colours will be presented during the 2024 Junior School Speech Day THIS Tuesday morning 19 November at the CEC.

Next, our talented young music students proudly presented their gold and silver trophies to Principal Mr Dan Walker, showcasing their success in the recent Music Fest competitions.

Also, we announced our 2024 AMEB: Australian Music Examinations Board results.

So congratulations to all our award recipients.

Additionally, we held our final ‘Gotcha Prize’ Draw for 2024.

The Gotcha Prize is awarded to students who embody our school values – from showing effort and trying their hardest in class, to demonstrating integrity by being honest, and engaging in difficult conversations.

Lastly, our Prep students delighted the audience by singing ‘Feliz Navidad’ or ‘Merry Christmas’, a song they practiced throughout Term 4 in their Spanish language classes.

Well done to everyone involved as this year rapidly draws to a close…

Year 8 English | End Of Year Critical & Creative Thinking ‘Escape Room’ Classroom Activity

Year 8 English | End Of Year Critical & Creative Thinking ‘Escape Room’ Classroom Activity

In Year 8 English, some of our students recently tackled an engaging team-building ‘Escape Room’ activity.

This immersive experience involved working through a series of critical thinking English-based challenges, where students collaborated in small groups, solved puzzles and unlocked codes to progress through each station.

There were Task Cards outlining instructions around decoders, mazes, logic puzzles and picture puzzles, with an overarching Code Breaker Tracking Sheet.

This interactive approach encouraged critical thinking, effective communication and problem-solving, while allowing students to enjoy a special learning experience.

The race to ‘escape’ brought out plenty of excitement, energy and teamwork – skills they will carry into their studies and beyond…

Year 8 BEE Christmas Gifts: Pop-Up Market Stalls | Photo Gallery

Our Year 8 BEE: Business, Economics & Entrepreneurship students brought the holiday cheer to campus during morning tea with a Christmas-themed pop-up market outside the School Canteen.

As part of their Entrepreneurial Design project, these budding business minds have been hard at work creating their own products to share with our Canterbury students and staff.

From homemade treats and festive ornaments to candles, jewellery, Crocs jibbitz, and more – there was something for everyone to kick off their holiday shopping.

These stalls are a great opportunity for our students to show off their entrepreneurial skills and spread a little joy.

The next Year 8 BEE Christmas Gifts: Pop-Up Market Stalls is scheduled during lunchtime TODAY – so don’t miss out!

Year 10 Micro-Credentials Two-Day Course: Certificate II In Barista Skills | Photos & Recap

Year 10 Micro-Credentials Two-Day Course: Certificate II In Barista Skills | Photos & Recap

Yesterday, Mr Paul Penny and I took some Year 10 students on a morning train to the city for the first day of their two-day Micro-Credentials Barista Course, where they began working towards their Certificate II in Barista Skills with the Skills Training College - RTO 45654.

The students were fully engaged as they learned the essentials of both white and black coffee styles. ☕

Each student made approximately 24 different coffee beverages, ranging from Café Lattes, Short and Long Macchiatos to Piccolo Lattes and more.

They practised techniques for steaming milk, managing espresso shots, and presenting their drinks with a focus on consistency and quality.

By the end of the session, they had a solid foundation in coffee-making skills, and gained confidence in working under the real-time pressures of a busy café setting.

The experience not only improved their practical skills, but also gave them a better understanding of the responsibilities and challenges of working in the Hospitality industry.

We had a great day filled with learning and hands-on experiences, helping our students get ready for the real world.

Mrs Tilly White | School Canteen Assistant
