Year 10-12 Romeo & Juliet & Macbeth – General English Incursion | Event Wrap

Year 10-12 Romeo & Juliet & Macbeth – General English Incursion | Event Wrap

Today, over 270 students from Years 10-12 were treated to Shake & Stir Theatre Co’s powerful reimagining of two of Shakespeare’s most iconic works in our Performing Arts Theatre.

Year 10 General English students viewed a dynamic adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, blending live performance with on-screen storytelling. This creative production invited students to reflect on what might have been – if only time were on Romeo and Juliet’s side.

Next up, our Years 11 and 12 students experienced Macbeth – a bold and visually striking production exploring ambition, manipulation, and moral conflict.

Both performances brought Shakespeare’s language into sharp focus, encouraging students to think critically through adaptation, performance techniques, and contemporary interpretation – all directly linked to the General English curriculum.

Thank you to Shake & Stir Theatre Co for delivering engaging and curriculum-aligned performances that deepened our students’ connection to Shakespeare’s timeless texts.

2025 Years 8 and 10 Mandarin Kung-Fu Incursion

On Friday 18 July, our Years 8 and 10 Mandarin students participated in an exciting Kung Fu incursion led by Dragon Dance Events LTL Group.

They learned basic Kung Fu techniques and practised self-defence while exploring the cultural values behind this traditional Chinese martial art.

Kung Fu promotes discipline, respect, perseverance, and balance, which are key values in Chinese culture. It was a fun and active way to deepen their language and cultural learning.

2025 Year 10 Start-Up Business Showcase

2025 Year 10 Start-Up Business Showcase

Canterbury College’s Year 10 Start-Up Business students transformed the Tech Deck into a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation, proudly presenting their business ventures to industry professionals, parents, and the wider College community.

Our talented emcees, Ethan Park and Lucy Johnson, set the tone for the event with an honest and inspiring reflection on their Start-Up journey.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect when I selected a new class called Start-Up. This subject is different from our other school subjects. I quickly learned that it’s a practical course that challenges us to start and manage our own small business. We’re still in the early stages of our journey and are seeking advice and feedback on our next steps. We began with a deep dive into business and start-up culture and were encouraged to create a business based on a personal problem or passion. As teenagers with many other commitments, it’s important that we care deeply about the problem our business is solving.”

A major highlight of the event was watching three standout student businesses pitch their ideas live on stage:

  • Dekota Henwood, founder of Delou
  • Riley Morgan and Lincoln Crooks, co-founders of Bass Buster Lures
  • Harmanpreet Dharan, founder of Luxe Threadz

These students were nominated by their peers as most deserving of the opportunity, and we congratulate them on their confident and compelling presentations.

A special thank you to our guest speakers who joined the Entrepreneurs Panel – Mr Joshua McHugh from Future Anything and Canterbury alumnus Mr Michael Cross – for generously sharing their insights and experiences.

Congratulations Year 10 students for showcasing your creativity, innovation and passion.

Director of Student Development and Year 10 Start Up Teacher
