2024 Winter Music Festival: Kaleidoscope Concert | Event Photo Gallery
Last night, our third concert of the Winter Music Festival series – Kaleidoscope, took to the CEC stage to showcase the progress of our Junior School musicians and singers, since the beginning of the year.
A supportive Canterbury Community of parents, carers, family members and staff gathered proudly to enjoy our students in their first ‘public’ concert – getting home well in time for State Of Origin Game One!

This morning, our Year 10 Start-Up Business classes hosted an entrepreneurial showcase event on our Tech Deck, displaying their innovative business concepts, products and services to the Canterbury Community at their presentation tables.
The 14 start-up businesses included: the Afro Hoods clothing line, Ashan Industries’ PEETA neurodiverse communicator app, Down Undies clothing, JAEL WEAR clothing, Just For You, Kindi Buds, Paws and Pages children’s books, Port-A-Line, Shine Cases, SJ Books, The Spooly Brush, Top Towels, Tuff Clothing and WRLD Clothing.
The showcase commenced with two student business presentations, then an insightful panel discussion with three successful contemporary entrepreneurs – Mr Peter Maynard from CyberMetrix, Gabriel Matt from Wilak Media and Alyssa Burns from Future Anything, who shared their expertise, good and bad experiences, journey learnings and business strategies with our entrepreneurial students.
They told our captivated school audience to understand their ‘problem solution’ clearly, to be truly passionate about their idea, to never give up on their business pursuits, and to keep researching on Google and YouTube and by chatting with suppliers – where all the answers can be found via those entrepreneurial pioneers who went before them.
Our panel added that being young was a ‘superpower’, as business people generally like to support young students who remind them of their business-oriented younger selves just starting out.
And also to treat failures as inevitable learning steps and merely lessons to absorb on the journey to eventual commercial and social success.
We wish our young entrepreneurs the best with their business pursuits.

Today our Year 12 Visual Art classes welcomed multi-award-winning artist Carolyn V Watson.
During this VIP guest-led workshop, students learned to transform wire and repurposed materials of little or no significant value, into something of greater worth or artistic enjoyment.
They also experimented with melted beeswax to see how it strengthens and stiffens artwork elements.

Today, we welcomed the Tongan National Women’s Rugby Team for an open training session on our Canterbury oval and inside our campus gym.
Many of our students enjoyed watching these Pacific Islander athletes from the hill and sidelines going through their paces.
Seeing them prepare in the flesh for next year’s 16-team 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup Tournament Qualifiers was truly inspiring!

This week during lunchtimes, our senior students have been attending our History Week’s fun educational sessions, in the Senior School Library’s Digital Hub.
On Wednesday, students teamed up with friends to test their History knowledge, answering questions about topics that ranged from the Egyptian pharaohs, to the Australian Federation, and right up to the 2022 Canterbury College School Captains – can you name them too?

2024 Junior School Public Speaking Competition Finals: Lumina Program | Event Wrap & Photo Gallery
Last Thursday, we held our 2024 Canterbury College Junior School Public Speaking Competition in the Junior School Library. ️
As part of our Junior School’s Lumina Program – which supports high-performing students, the Years 3-6 finalists aimed to entertain, persuade or inform their audience with a particular topic.
This practical experience gave our young students the opportunity to demonstrate the impact and influence of language on their audience, while also building confidence speaking in public, as well as essential communication skills.
Our judges – Principal Dan Walker, Head Of Junior School Karen Roman, Assistant Head Of Junior School (Learning) Alisha Richardson and Junior School’s Public Speaking & Debating Coordinator Courtney Jones – joined the Lumina Program Head Jonathon Wheatley, to assess the various speeches based on their structure, pacing, volume, clarity and the use of technical or emotive vocabulary.
Additionally, the students’ body language played a crucial role in enhancing their spoken delivery.
Congratulations to these talented students for stepping up in front of senior College staff and participating in something that many find quite daunting.
