Year 7 Food and Hospitality: Food Safety & Workplace Health & Safety Lessons

Today our Year 7 Food and Hospitality students transformed into crime scene investigators in a food safety, and workplace health and safety lesson led by Miss Kim Cooper in our campus kitchen classroom.

Faced with a fictional victim’s mysterious kitchen injuries, students combed the scene for any clues.

They uncovered critical hazards – improper knife washing, risky food preparation techniques, overlooked allergy precautions, careless tray handling from a hot oven, the risk of salmonella, and spillages – that all contributed to the victim’s unfortunate mishaps.

As they pieced together this puzzle scenario, Year 7s gained real-world knowledge about essential kitchen safety and food hygiene practices.

The classroom’s teamwork and sharp hospitality detective skills turned a crucial life lesson into a fun, interactive and far more memorable learning experience.

By the end of the session, students walked away with the confidence to apply these safety practices in any future commercial kitchen they may step into.
