All Things ‘The Sudsy Challenge’ | THIS WEEK: Kime House Final Week 10, Term 3

It’s a big bright orange week coming up and here’s what’s taking place with over 250 Canterbury students and staff involved in the annual The Sudsy Challenge

THIS Tuesday 10 September: ELC & Junior School Lunch Break BBQ Fundraiser

Stop by and hear about the impactful work the Orange Sky Australia team is doing in the local community, while enjoying a BBQ Sausage Sizzle on The Green in the Junior School campus.

This BBQ is led by Junior School student leaders alongside some Kime Senior School students.

THIS Wednesday 11 September: The Sudsy Challenge Begins!

Students and staff participating in The Sudsy Challenge will change into their bright orange Sudsy clothes after their annual College group, house, class and cocurricular photo sessions.

Canterbury sports shorts or formal pants and shirts may be worn with The Sudsy Challenge shirt or House shirt.

This challenge encourages participants to keep their orange kit on for three straight days to raise awareness and funds for those facing homelessness hardships.

By choosing not to change clothes for three days and starting conversations with young people in our community, we aim to change the discussion around homelessness and support those in need.

The challenge takes its name from ‘Sudsy’ which was the first ever laundry van built by Orange Sky co-founders Nic and Lucas right here in Brisbane.

It took them three days and three sets of washing machines and dryers to get Sudsy up and running, which is why The Sudsy Challenge lasts for three days.

THIS Thursday 12 September: The Sudsy Challenge Continues

During the afternoon, we have a special End Of Term Chapel Service and Kime House Student-Led Assembly for all Prep to Year 12 students.

Orange Sky Co-Founder and 2016 Young Australian of the Year Nic Marchesi OAM, will address our gathered assembly about ‘all things’ The Sudsy Challenge.

THIS Friday 13 September: The Sudsy Challenge Lunch Break Finale | Last School Day Term 3

Our busy Term 3 concludes with a Years 5-6 and whole Senior School campus BBQ Fundraiser.

So all staff and students from these cohorts are welcome to join us for this BBQ to celebrate ‘Double the Difference Day’.

This is where we aim to combine our fundraising efforts from the Junior School and Senior School events on Orange Sky Australia’s ‘Double Day’, where donations will be matched by generous donors.

Please visit our Lower P Block rear pergola area facing the ovals during lunch break for a sausage sizzle, cold drink and ice cream, all in support of this very worthwhile cause.

This BBQ is run by our Senior School Kime House students.

In 2023, we actually topped the national leaderboard as the most generous school or organisation with over $34,000 raised!

So let’s see how we go this year THIS WEEK with nearly $29,000 raised already at the time of writing.

Orange Sky Australia has already provided over 1.9 million kilograms of FREE laundry and 20,000 showers and 330,000 hours of genuine, non-judgmental conversation to Aussies doing it tough.

By supporting The Sudsy Challenge, you will be helping to continue this incredible work, offering practical support and dignity to those who need it most.
