Canterbury’s 37th Foundation Day Celebration | Chapel Service, Principal’s Address, Special Guest Speaker & Alumnus of the Year Award
Today, Canterbury celebrated its 37th Anniversary by reflecting on how far we’ve come, and looking forward to all the ‘milestones and magic’ still to come over the next 37 years…
Our official ‘whole College’ morning Chapel Service, delivered by College Chaplain Fr Dan Talbot, gave thanks and inspiration to our fast-growing school community on a beautiful autumn day – wishing us all a Happy Birthday and joyful reflections.
This was followed by a special presentation from Principal Mr Dan Walker – who saluted our amazing founding staff’s incredible vision, efforts and enthusiasm back in 1985-87 to get this actual school up and running.
Then our very popular special guest speaker Mr Gordon Royall – Canterbury’s Dean of School (Secondary), Director of Activities and Secondary Teacher (1986 – 2000) – addressed staff and students about his 14 years here, the College motto, and his favourite memories from decades ago.
As per our annual Foundation Day tradition, we finished the ceremony by proudly announcing the recipient of the prestigious ‘Alumnus of the Year’ Award for 2024.
So hearty congratulations to Mrs Jane Dionysius (nee Hampson) – our 2003 School Captain and current Brisbane Airport Corporation Executive General Manager of Human Resources.
A profile story on Jane’s esteemed career and community charity work will follow shortly.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who joined with us on campus – both past and present staff and students – to celebrate Canterbury’s 37th birthday together.
And special acknowledgement to those student leaders who spoke on stage and those who performed beautifully in the choir.
