2025 United Nations Day: Canterbury College Multicultural Celebration | Photo Gallery & Highlights Video

On Friday 20 June, Canterbury College marked the final day of Term 2 with its biggest community event of the year, ‘United Nations Day’.

Now in its fifth year, the celebration has grown significantly from its humble beginnings in 2020.

The day featured a vibrant array of food stalls prepared by families, offering traditional dishes from across Africa, Europe, the Pacific, Asia, and more.

The festivities began with a First Nations Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, performed by the local Indigenous Mununjali and Logan Elders.

This was followed by the Parade of Nations Flag Ceremony, where students proudly carried flags representing their cultural heritage.

A vibrant 2.5-hour performance schedule showcased music, dance, and songs from countries including Samoa, New Zealand, South Korea, the Philippines, India, Africa, and many more – all choreographed by students with help from family and friends.

In addition, students from Years 5–12 came together to present a cultural fashion parade, proudly showcasing traditional attire from around the world.

Guests also enjoyed a range of cultural activities, including Indigenous weaving, henna tattoos, and arts and crafts.

This year’s United Nations Day was a powerful reminder of Canterbury’s rich diversity and inclusive spirit.

A big thank you to all the families, VIP guests, and students who supported and contributed to making this event such a success.

We were also pleased to welcome the Mayor of Logan, Jon Raven, who visited during the celebrations and showed his support for our vibrant multicultural community.
