What is Round Square
Round Square is a worldwide network of more than 280 schools that share a belief that education should develop both the mind and the character of young people.
The organisation supports schools in embedding character education and experiential learning across all aspects of school life, encouraging students to engage with real world challenges, build resilience and develop leadership.
Across Australia, Round Square membership includes respected schools such as Geelong Grammar School, The Scots College, Prince Alfred College, St Peter’s College and St Andrew’s Cathedral School, placing Canterbury among a community of schools committed to developing capable, globally minded young people.
At Canterbury, this philosophy aligns closely with our approach to education. We believe learning extends beyond the classroom and that meaningful experiences help shape capable, compassionate young people.
International Understanding
Building awareness and respect for different cultures, perspectives and traditions.
Democracy
Encouraging student voice, participation and responsible citizenship.
Environmental Stewardship
Developing a sense of responsibility for protecting and sustaining our environment.
Adventure
Stepping beyond comfort zones and embracing challenge as a pathway to growth.
Leadership
Developing confidence, initiative and the ability to guide and support others.
Service
Making meaningful contributions to local and global communities.
At Canterbury, these principles connect naturally with the many opportunities our students experience across academic learning, leadership programs, service initiatives, outdoor education and co curricular activities.
Global Opportunities Through Round Square
Through Round Square, Canterbury students are connected to a global network of schools across more than 50 countries, opening the door to a range of international learning experiences.
Students may participate in international exchanges, spending time studying in another country and experiencing different cultures, communities and educational environments. Canterbury also welcomes visiting students from other Round Square schools, bringing new global perspectives directly into our College community.
Students and staff can also attend Round Square conferences, where young people from around the world come together to explore important global issues. Through workshops, discussions, service initiatives and cultural experiences, students develop leadership skills, broaden their understanding of the world and build lasting international friendships.
Together, these opportunities strengthen Canterbury’s commitment to preparing students with the perspective, confidence and character to graduate World Ready.
“Our membership of Round Square strengthens Canterbury’s commitment to developing young people of character, curiosity and global awareness. These opportunities allow our students to connect with peers from across the world, explore different perspectives and grow as thoughtful leaders who are ready to contribute positively to their communities.”
